Call Of Duty: Warzone — How To Download Battle Royale Without Modern Warfare

Call of Duty: Warzone, a free-to-play battle royale that supports up to 150 players, is available as part of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and a standalone game. It’s a huge download size if you don’t have Modern Warfare, but don’t worry–that just gives you some time to check out our list of Warzone tips.

Modern Warfare players were able to start downloading Warzone at 8 AM PT on March 10; it’s 15-22 GB update depending on whether you’re playing on PC, PS4, or Xbox One. Opening Modern Warfare should prompt the update if it hasn’t already begun on its own, though if you encounter any issues, try restarting your system. Those who don’t own MW can expect an 80-100 GB download.

  • Download on PS4
  • Download on Xbox One
  • Download on PC

Original story follows…

An in-game countdown in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is ticking towards a reveal, which should be for the heavily leaked Warzone Battle Royale mode.

The countdown is set to end at 8 AM PT tomorrow, March 10. It occupies a locked space on the Modern Warfare main menu that was introduced with Season 2, and has been linked to the existence of Warzone since then. Although it appears in Modern Warfare, previous leaks have suggested that Warzone will be both free and standalone, not requiring a Modern Warfare purchase to play.

Earlier today many details about Warzone were confirmed by a now-pulled video showing off its gameplay. This leak confirmed that players will fight in 1v1 matches in a gulag to secure revival, feature 150 players at launch, and support the same cross-play as Modern Warfare’s multiplayer.

Although Warzone has yet to be explicitly mentioned by both the in-game countdown and developer Infinity Ward, it’s expected that this tease will coincide with the launch of the game across PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Call Of Duty: Warzone Player Rips Activision After Dying From A Glitch

Call of Duty: Warzone has seen its fair share of epic kills, but this one is scraping the bottom of the barrel. A redditor filmed their recent death in Warzone at the hands of a player exploiting a new bug. In his frustration he titled the thread, “Only Activision could make a game where this is possible.” We’re not going to defend Activision, but it’s safe to say that other companies — we’re looking at you Bethesda — could probably make a game that’s even “buggier.”

The clip shows a player hunkered down on the second floor of a building, throwing grenades and shooting at a truck that is passing by. They land some great shots on the vehicle and seem to be dealing out a load of damage. The truck — realizing where the assault is coming from — turns around and starts heading for the player’s hideout. Of course, since they’re located on the second floor, they should be safe from the speeding vehicle.

At least, they would be if it wasn’t for a nasty glitch. The truck rams full-speed into the wall below the player and — somehow lands a kill. It’s a ridiculous bug that many players are taking advantage of, according to comments on the video. Vehicles seem to be drawing more and more disgust in Warzone as the weeks go by. Whether or not anything will change is unknown, so until then just run away from anything with wheels. Otherwise you might be cursing Activision, too.

CoD Patch Notes For Warzone, Modern Warfare Reveal All The Big Changes

After a last-minute delay, the next big free update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone is now available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Developer Infinity Ward announced on Twitter that the next update–which includes a new Operator and map for Modern Warfare and big changes for the Warzone battle royale mode–would arrive on Thursday, and it’s now available to download.

In terms of what’s new, the update adds a new Modern Warfare multiplayer Operator, Talon, who has a very good boy to accompany him. There is also a new map, Khandor Hideout, which will get its own 24/7 playlist at launch so people can play it endlessly.

Also new with the update is the NVG Infected mode, which is essentially Infected, but with the lights off. The “Survivors” team have thermal sights, but the Infected team can see in the dark. The Plunder mode for Warzone, meanwhile, adds a new variant in the form of “Blood Money.” This special game mode gives guaranteed cash drops for all kills, while completing bounty contracts and finishing moves pays out extra money as a bonus incentive.

The standard Warzone battle royale mode introduces four new weapons with the update: 725 Shotgun, MK2 Carbine, EBR-14, and the .50 GS. In terms of changes, Infinity Ward has nerfed shotgun damage from close range so a single shot will no longer down an enemy who has full armor. However, players who are using Stopping Power ammo can still down an enemy with a shotgun blast from close range with a single shot.

Warzone also now supports different controller button layouts, which is good news for one reason in particular. You can now choose to use the Bumper Ping and Bumper Ping Flipped layouts to use the “Ping” feature by pressing the controller’s bumper instead of the D-pad. This is wonderful news, as fans remarked that the D-pad configuration was awkward. This change brings Warzone more in line with Apex Legends, which also uses bumpers for pings.

Another notable change for Warzone is that the price of Loadout Drops from the Buy Station has been increased to $8,500, which is up from $6,000. The Loadout Drops have been one of Warzone’s most controversial new features because they allow you to spawn with any loadout you want from the main Modern Warfare mode, thus giving players the opportunity to wield high-power Legendary weapons early in matches.

At $6,000, the Loadout Drops were already the most expensive item you could purchase from the Buy Station. The new price increase should help level things out, though undoubtedly Loadout Drops will remain controversial.

9 Call Of Duty: Warzone Tips To Help You Win

Call of Duty: Warzone wastes little time in getting you into its particular, Modern Warfare-flavored take on a battle royale game. As the Call of Duty franchise’s second crack at the popular genre following Black Ops 4’s Blackout, Warzone is a considerably more refined and squad-focused take–though, there now is an option to play Solo. That said, though Warzone still features all the familiar mechanics and moments of intense action you’d expect from a battle royale game, the mode introduces some surprising and somewhat unnerving twists to the formula to keep in mind.

In this quick guide, we’ve broken down some essential survival tips. From making smart choices with your minimal resources, being more of a team player, to learning how to fight dirty in the gulag; there’s a lot to take in during your first rounds in the Verdansk map, and we’re here to help.

Survival Is Essential (Don’t Give Up)

As obvious of a tip this may seem, Warzone takes a slightly different approach to the loop of running, gunning, and quitting to join another game after getting gunned down. Between the Gulag system and the ample Buy stations scattered around the map, there are lots of chances for your squad to get back to fighting strength, and possibly make a tremendous comeback. While other squad-focused battle royale games inspire feelings of dread and aimlessness after your teammates have been wiped, you still have a decent shot at reviving them if you have the cash and can manage to evade danger–provided they haven’t quit the game. Compared to other BR games, it’s pretty easy to get teammates back in Warzone–but you can’t do that if you’re dead. So stay focused and calm, even when the odds are against you.

Enjoy Your Stay In The Gulag

Modern Warfare’s most significant addition to the battle royale framework is the Gulag, a prison you’re dragged to after suffering a defeat in the match. After a few moments in prison, you’ll get matched up with another player for a one-on-one Gunfight match, where you’re given a random loadout of weapons and thrown into a fight together in the prison’s showers. Surrounding you are other players in the rafters egging you on, and they can even pelt you with rocks, which can add to the unnerving scenario. The winner of that fight will be redeployed back to the current match near their teammates, while the other is free to spectate, wait to be revived by a teammate, or quit out to try again in another match.

Essentially, the Gulag gives you an automatic second chance at redemption, provided you’ve got the skills and cunning to survive the prison’s trial. This limbo state is essentially a make or break moment for the match, allowing every player a shot at coming back into the match on their own terms. It’s also a noticeably different pace compared to the more reserved and patience pace of battle royale. In the Gulag, you’re rewarded for being crafty, using the environment to sneak up on your enemy. So as soon as you enter the prison, make sure to show everyone who’s boss in order to survive.

Use That Ping

If you’ve played Apex Legends, Fortnite, or any other modern shooter, then you know how essential the ping system is. It allows you to easily mark a location on the map, a spot in your field of vision, weapons, and of course, enemies in the distance. Warzone has a useful ping system, allowing you to easily communicate with your teammates even if you’re not using voice chat to talk with them. The ping system contextually marks items you focus on, and double-tapping it allows you to indicate active hot-zones and locations where some action is about to go down. Even if you’re talking with your teammates or playing with friends, get used to using the ping system extensively.

Don’t Forget To Mount Your Weapon

Warzone’s tutorial does a good job of teaching you the absolute basics, including one aspect you’ll be familiar with if you’ve played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: the ability to mount your weapon. This involves using an object nearby to steady your weapon, reducing the amount of recoil you have to compensate for when firing your gun. Understandably, this can be easy to forget in the middle of combat. While there are certainly times that it’s better to maintain your mobility, the ability to fire accurately can mean the difference between life and death in certain engagements. Try to make use of this early and often as you begin playing Warzone so that you can build muscle memory rather than allowing this ability to become an afterthought.

Always Pick Up Bounty And Scavenger Contracts

Contracts are side-objectives you and your squad can pick up in the field to earn some extra cash and resources. They are a fun wrinkle to Warzone’s take on battle royale, but it’s essential you don’t allow them to become a distraction–you don’t want to find yourself outside the ring or leaving yourself vulnerable to complete one. That said, there are undeniable benefits to picking up contracts that should not be ignored. Scavenger contracts will reward you for opening a series of supply boxes, but even if you don’t have the opportunity to collect all three, picking up the contract will still direct you to a cache containing money and loot. As such, if you’re light on cash or gear, a Scavenger contract will guide you right to where you want to go.

Similarly, a Bounty contract will alert you to the general location of a foe you need to hunt down. Do so successfully, and you’ll be rewarded. But even if you have no intention of completing the contract–say, if you’re low on armor or ammo–having the general location of an enemy (or potentially an enemy squad) can help you avoid combat altogether.

Go For Loadouts

If you’re not reviving your squad and have some cash to spare, you want to try to purchase a loadout pack whenever you can. Buying a loadout drop allows you to call down your personal, customized loadout from the rest of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s standard multiplayer modes. If you’ve put in the time and unlocked guns with attachments, it means you can bring in the best, most useful guns available in Warzone, without having to run around looting buildings and making yourself vulnerable.

The real benefit of getting your custom loadout in Warzone is the perks. Warzone players don’t start with multiplayer perks in a match, but if you can get your loadout into the game, you also get its perks, which have a lot of benefits in Warzone, like increasing your revive speed or making you sprint faster. Not every perk is handy, so it pays to build a Warzone loadout and have it ready to go. But amping up your speed or making Killstreaks cheaper to purchase in Warzone can give you a big advantage in battle, even if you get stuck with guns that aren’t your favorites. When a loadout drops onto the map, it’s visible to everyone, which means that going after another player’s package is usually worth the risk. The prizes can be worth it, especially when you feel you’ve gotten a poor gearset as you’re roaming the map.

Keep Track Of The Redeployment Flares

Between the Gulag and purchasing redeployments, a lot of players can rejoin Warzone matches even though they’ve been eliminated. But to make sure your teammates second or even third chances aren’t in vain, you’ll need to keep an eye out for their signal flares that shoot way up into the sky and glow brightly upon their redeployment. Flares often launch from the Buy stations where a squad can bring their teammate into the game, and when a flare gets launched, it means two things: a player is dropping back into the game with next to nothing on that spot, and a shorthanded squad is waiting nearby for a teammate to return.

As you can guess, these signals flares will be visible to all players. It’s up to you to figure out the best time to use them, as aggressive players can use flares as a guide to get the drop on weak teams and knock them out of the game. On the other hand, if you want to be cautious, flares are often a good indication of where not to go, since you know players will be waiting nearby–and the flare could draw other teams looking for an opportunistic attack. Either way, flares can give you a lot of information, so keep an eye out for them.

Be Smart With Your Cash

While out in the field and taking on different contracts, you’ll be able to collect cash for your soldier. This currency can purchase new equipment from the many shops scattered across the map. These shops include Rare- and Epic-level support items and weapons, which can come in clutch during a fight. With all that said, you’re much better off saving up your currency for when you feel you’ll need it most. Along with purchasing items, cash can be invested in redeploying downed squadmates. What’s interesting about the redeploy option is that it can still revive players who have fallen in battle after escaping the Gulag, giving them yet another chance at fighting in the current battle. Since every member of a squad has their pool of cash, you’ll want to make sure you still have enough money in your reserves in case a squadmate suffers an untimely fate.

Be A Team Player And Share The Wealth

Making sure you’re as well-equipped as you can be is a key part of any battle royale game, but since Warzone is about squads of three, you also want your teammates to be in good shape. Each player in Warzone gathers cash separately, so when you’re thinking about potentially hitting a Buy station, it’s usually best to pool your squad’s resources together. Collecting money can be somewhat slow for a single person, but a whole team can combine their funds, and between two or three of you, you’ll often find you can afford things like loadouts or squad redeployments without too much effort.

This also extends to gear and other items on the field. One big thing to keep an eye on is armor, which can be the deciding factor in a gunfight. You can equip three pieces of armor on yourself at any given time, but you can carry up to five pieces. Having a couple of spare pieces of armor can help you if you get into trouble, but if your teammates are low, the better plan might be to share them. You can quickly pull up your inventory with Down on the D-Pad or TAB on PC, then highlight an item and drop it for a teammate. That includes armor pieces, which can help bring your squad up to full strength quickly–especially if someone died and had to be redeployed.

Call of Duty: Warzone – How To Use Spray Paint To Win Gulag

During a Call of Duty: Warzone match, someone stumbled upon a genius idea. If you manage to spray-paint your opponent while awaiting your gulag showdown – they become much easier to see during the fight.

Warzone players have developed a love-hate relationship with the gulag. It’s annoying and high-pressure, but defeat your opponent and you’ve earned yourself a one-way ticket back to the battlefield. Nobody likes to sit around while your allies fumble to get enough money to buy you back – so you might as well maximize your odds for the gulag win.

The trick is to take advantage of a gulag queue. Most players will throw some punches, rocks, or even sit around AFK – but that isn’t the best use of your downtime in the prison. Instead, if you find and spray-paint your foe before the gulag match begins, the paint will remain for the entirety of the fight.

You’ll also want to ensure that you go to “Options,” “Keyboard & Mouse,” and then “Movement.” Scroll down the list and double check what your “Gesture/Spray” keybind is so you know how to use it in-game. Now all you need is to get lucky with a gulag queue; You won’t have time to spray your opponent if you load directly into the 1-vs-1 match.

So who is the genius behind this neat little trick? Apparently, someone who was tipsy from St. Patrick’s day beverages.

As with many clever ideas, it worked itself out by chance. Redditor “PublicWest” was simply trying to have some fun while waiting for his gulag showdown when he quickly realized that spray-painting opponents makes them much easier to see. Thanks to his experimentation and willingness to share his findings, dedicated players have another tool to get a leg up in their upcoming gulag matches.

Call Of Duty: Warzone Adds Four New Weapons, A New Map, And A New Operator

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is getting a new map for its multiplayer mode, as well as new weapons for Warzone and a brand new operator.

What could make Warzone a better battle royale game? Maybe opening up the stadium so you can have a gunfight on a football pitch? Or how about removing the vehicles so that players have an easier time setting ambushes?

Or how about just adding in more guns? We love guns, right?

Activision announced yesterday that there are going to be four guns added to Warzone. If you’re a Modern Warfare player, these guns will probably be familiar to you as they’re already available in the game’s regular multiplayer mode, but they’re all welcome additions to Warzone.

First up: The MK2 Carbine, a lever-action marksman rifle with some incredible range and stopping power. You can get one-shot-kills to the body with this thing at the cost of a relatively slow rate of fire. Accuracy is your friend with the MK2.

Next, we have the 725, a break-action shotgun with twin barrels for two shots in quick succession. Deadly at far longer range than you’d think for a shotgun, the 725 is not to be underestimated.

On the smaller end of the new additions is the .50 GS pistol. A Desert Eagle replica, this pistol packs a punch and has a great time-to-kill, although it can be difficult to handle.

And finally, the EBR-14. EBR stands for Enhanced Battle Rifle, and it’s based on the Mk-14 rifle that was the main weapon of the US Army after World War 2. It’s semi-automatic, so you don’t have to worry quite as much if you miss a shot or two.

All these weapons are going to be common or uncommon drops in Verdansk, so you’re likely to see them pop up in your next game.

Along with the new weapons comes a new operator named Talon. He joins the Coalition with his trusty sidekick Indiana, who is a dog. Not sure if the dog will play a role in anything but the game’s lore, but Talon will be available in both Warzone and regular multiplayer this week.

Speaking of multiplayer, the new map Khandor Hideout is expected to arrive later this week as well. A 6v6, medium-sized map, Khandor Hideout is expected to provide a diversity of combat ranges, from close-quarters combat in a large central warehouse to long-range sniping along Knahdor’s city streets.

Talon and the new map were supposed to arrive yesterday but have since been delayed until later this week. We’ll be sure to report when both are available.

Call of Duty: Warzone Reaches 30 Million Players in Ten Days

Only ten days after release, Call of Duty: Warzone looks like a massive hit with over 30 million players diving into the newest take on the battle royale genre. Like most titles in the genre, players can download Warzone for free, and now more than ever there is an abundance of time to play video games.

As concerns of the potential pandemic spread of Covid-19 are keeping more and more people in their homes, it is impossible to know if the success of Warzone is partially due to the sudden spike in available players, or if would have garnered the same positive attention and player traction without the sudden need to stay home.

Currently it is impossible to say how long the need for social distancing will remain in effect, but it does seem like Warzone will remain a staple for many players as the days turn into weeks. Even if life does return to normal soon, neither Fortnite or Apex Legends is doing anything new and exciting to capture and maintain the interest of its players. Fortnite in particular seems to be in a drought for content, and Warzone will likely continue to benefit from a large pool of players.

Luckily, TheGamer has all the resources a player needs to dominate the opposition. There are guides that rank each vehicle, how best to spend Cash, and how to tackle the 1v1 Gulag fights that give players a second chance at winning the entire match. Be sure to take a look, since there is so much to learn in Warzone to gain a competitive edge!

Call of Duty: Warzone has 30 million players ‘working from home’

If you’re working from home and get paid to play video games, then odds are good you’re enjoying Call of Duty: Warzone.

In just 10 days, the free-to-play battle royale game Warzone has accumulated 30 million players, according to Activision Blizzard and developer Infinity Ward.

I’ve been distracted by Doom Eternal, but as soon as I finish, I’ll be getting back to playing Warzone. It’s a lot of fun, more so than lat year’s Call of Duty: Blackout, which was just a mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

Among the new things in it is Plunder Mode, where the goal is to gather as much money in the game as possible in a time limit.

The game hit 6 million players in its first 24 hours on the PC and consoles. That’s a pretty good outcome for a battle royale mode that could have been an also-ran in a world full of battle royale games. In four days, the total was 15 million.

One of the things I like about it is that you can use your loadout from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. I’m level 86 in that game’s multiplayer, with fully leveled-up loadouts.

When you parachute into Warzone’s Verdansk map, you only have a pistol. You have to scavenge for better weapons, and it’s not so hard to find something like a light machine gun. But during the match, you can either use your money to purchase a loadout drop or otherwise get a random loadout drop. That means that when a box parachutes into the match, you can run to it and choose one of your own loadouts.

The game is also good about keeping you occupied, even if you get taken out early. If you are killed, you go to a Gulag. Then you fight a one-on-one match with another player. If you win, you can parachute back into the game with your existing three-person squad. Your squad mates can also purchase your return at a “buy station.”

I’ve found that it pays to be stealthy and camp out in the center of the map, or where you think the circle will be at the end. Then you can pick off some of the people running into your sector. I managed to get second place doing that, as you can see in the video. But I still need to play a lot more.
