100 Thieves put a stop to Cloud9’s winstreak – Daily Esports

100 Thieves become the first team to defeat Cloud9 in the League of Legends Summer Split. Cloud9 was on a nine-game winning streak in the league and previously defeated 100 Thieves at the beginning of the split. The team looked dominant over teams like Evil Geniuses, TSM, and Team Liquid previously. However, they lost to 100T, who were 3-6 heading into the series.

The 100 Thieves League of Legends team had recently made drastic changes to its roster midway through the 2020 Summer Split. William “Meteos” Hartman and William “Stunt” Chen were both replaced on the main roster by two academy players. Philippe “Poome” Lavoie-Giguere and Juan “Contractz” Garcia took the places of the previous members. Before the swap, 100 Thieves were 8th place in the standing at 1-5. With the addition of Contractz and Poome, the team is now 4-6 following Cloud9’s defeat.

100 Thieves dominate Cloud9

It has been almost two years since 100 Thieves beat Cloud9 in League of Legends. The last time 100T beat C9 was in the second half of the 2018 Summer Split. Since then, both teams made major roster changes and went through multiple tournaments.

100 Thieves started strong by putting Cloud9 top-laner Eric “Licorice” Ritchie behind in lane. From there, the team continued to snowball by getting the first dragon and bullying C9’s jungler Robert “Blaber” Huang. However, Cloud9 began to show signs of life when it caught Contractz and Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho after 100T took Rift Harald.

Even after the misplay in the river, 100 Thieves continued to dominate Cloud9 all over the map. They were ahead in gold in nearly every lane and had already gotten three dragons halfway through the game. Eventually, 100 Thieves capitalized on Cloud9’s repeated mistakes and secured baron, which later lead to them getting the dragon soul. After the dragon soul was secured, 100T went on to ace C9 and push into their base. The game ended 27 minutes after 100T had acquired a 14,000 gold lead over C9.

A huge performance from @Contractz leads to @100Thieves handing @Cloud9 their first loss of the 2020 #LCS Summer Split! #100WIN
