Canadian esports company Enthusiast Gaming has entered an agreement to acquire Vedatis SAS, the owners of Icy Veins – a platform dedicated to guides for Activision Blizzard games including World of Warcraft and Overwatch. Enthusiast Gaming will acquire the platform for €7M ($8.33M USD) in cash and stock along with a milestone-based earnout. Pending due diligence and TSX approval as well as several customary conditions, the deal is expected to close in Q2 2021.
Icy Veins founders Damien Thivolle and Vlad-Matei Mladin will continue on with the company long term to operate the website.
Enthusiast Gaming and Icy Veins entered into an agreement in 2017 that saw Enthusiast work to monetize the platform’s advertising traffic. According to a release, Enthusiast Gaming generated roughly $2.4M in advertising revenue for the platform in 2020, paying 75% to the owners under a commercial representation agreement. With the completion of the acquisition, Enthusiast Gaming will retain 100% of advertising revenue.
