Chargers RB Austin Ekeler’s Gridiron Gaming Group activated around the NFL Draft with its second major streaming event as the company looks to merge stick-and-ball and esports interests.
“It’s just an opportunity for me with these bigger events to bring people in that are in the sports world — influencers, fans — and connect them with the community,” Ekeler said at the Esports Rising virtual event on Tuesday.
Gridiron Gaming’s first major event came around Super Bowl LV, and another is plannedaround this month’s Indianapolis 500. Ekeler said, “The best viewership, obviously, is the bigger events. … Those are the best draws because those are just more-publicized events.”
But on a daily basis, Ekeler is still passionate about connecting with fans interested in his efforts. “For my regular streams on the daily, I talk a lot about mental health, physical health and just the wellbeing of humans. So, that’s the majority of my content on my stream. And then, I play games here on the side just to connect even further.”
Moving forward, Gridiron Gaming has big plans as it continues to grow. “We’re partnering with a company that has rights to put tournaments on,” Ekeler said. “So, we’ll be running some of our own leagues and our own tournaments in the future.” Ekeler: “The importance is on the community. How can we connect with them and build that brand?
