ESL One Thailand 2020: Asia has had its group stages going
for the past 11 days and today they came to an end as the seeding for teams in
the upper and lower bracket has now been decided – and four teams have seen
their tournaments come to an end.
Six series of Dota 2 action came out from ESL One Thailand:
Asia today as some teams fought to secure an upper bracket showing, while
others attempted to avoid elimination. For BOOM Esports and Fnatic, their
series would push one team into the upper bracket, while the other would drop
into the lower. After dropping their opening series at the event to Motivate.Trust
Gaming, Fnatic had since seemed to raise their game once again – which showed
in game one versus BOOM, as they took a solid win. But that was when it all
fell apart as BOOM made the reverse sweep happen to claim a 2-1 series victory
and securing a spot in the upper bracket of playoffs.
TNC Predator had recently looked to be a dangerous squad
once again, especially in the group stages of ESL One Thailand and this was
part of the undoing of Team Trust, who had been without a single victory going
into the series. Unfortunately for the Chinese squad, they were left in the
dust by the Southeast Asians, who even secured an 18-minute game two victory
and solidified their spot in the upper bracket of playoffs and the top of Group
A. For Trust, they were one of two teams eliminated from Group A, with the
other sadly being Team Adroit, who only managed a single victory in the group –
losing their final matchup to Motivate.Trust Gaming today.
Geek Fam were hoping to edge out Sparking Arrow Gaming for a spot in the upper bracket as the two teams went head-to-head. Having lost only a single series each up until this point, both teams were looking exceptionally strong – but SAG were better on the day. The Chinese squad dismantled GF in two fairly drawn out games, claiming a 2-0 victory with a 992 GPM Phantom Lancer from Zhong ‘God-King’ Liushuai being the peak of their amazing performance.
As SAG secured their upper bracket spot, Neon Esports did
the same, simultaneously eliminating Question Mark from the event, as the
latter did not manage to secure any victories in the group stage. T1 were able
to round out the top four of Group B as they sent Aster.Aries packing with a
solid 2-0 victory, pushing them into the lower bracket of the playoffs. The matchups
for the upcoming playoffs are:
Lower Bracket:
- Motivate.Trust versus T1
- Geek Fam versus Fnatic
Upper Bracket:
- TNC Predator versus Neon Esports
- SAG versus BOOM Esports
ESL One Thailand 2020: Asia begins its playoff action
tomorrow with the two lower bracket elimination series getting underway first
before TNC and Neon battle to remain in the upper bracket.
