The same week that the 2020 League of Legends World Championship begins, Mark Yetter brings us the Patch 10.20 Preview, with some general changes that are not without surprises.
The recently started Patch 10.19 brought the meta that will be played in the international championship, which means that we haven’t properly seen its influences in the competitive scene, and makes it difficult for us to understand how the changes suggested in 10.20 will work.
Anyway, Riot’s Lead Gameplay Designer for League of Legends provided a list (not yet fully confirmed) of the Champions and systems that will be modified in the next version of the MOBA:

Nerfed Champions:
In the nerfs list we find some of the surprises that we commented before. Some Champions that are currently pretty weak on the meta are receiving some modifications to lower their power even more.
This is the case of Kled, who has been quite forgotten lately and didn’t seem to be a problem in the metagame. The same thing happens with Maokai, who has never been weak but we don’t usually see it in our games, nor professional games either.
Those nerfs to the top lane join a severe punishment to the mid laners. Patch 10.20 will nerf Kassadin, whose power from level 16 is the worst of the nightmares for all those who face him, Katarina, and Lulu, who is becoming very popular in the mid lane lately.
Karthus and Nunu complete the nerfs list, being the only junglers whose power will be lowered… while the botlane keeps strong as always!
Buffed Champions:
If we were surprised for the nerfs to the top lane that Patch 10.20 will bring, prepare for the buffs because this new version of League of Legens is bringing back big names to the meta.
The top lane will receive buffs for Aatrox, the eternal top abuser in competitive and normal games; Illaoi, pretty forgotten lately in competitive games, but very strong anyways; Sion and Urgot Jungle, both very popular and historical champions that have always been very strong, will now be able to flex to the jungle thanks to the buffs introduced with Patch 10.20; Ryze, name a more legendary pick, able to be flex-picked for mid and top, will be buffed too…
And together with this top lane buffs, the bot lane, that wasn’t mentioned in the nerfs list, receives improvements for two of their most popular champions: Varus and Braum, who will join the inmense list of strong-in-the-meta bot laners.
Systems
The only rune that will be modified is “Relentless Hunter“. This rune will suffer a nerf with the upcoming version.
The numbers and details of all these changes are still a question mark, but Mark Yetter promised us more info for today… stay tuned!!
