Tencent announced that it has added ¥21M RMB ($3M USD) in prize money for the third season of China’s top Peacekeeper Elite tournament, the Peace Elite League (PEL). Leo Liao, marketing director of Tencent Interactive Entertainment Group and president of PEL released this news during the open ceremony of PEL in VSPN Xi’an esports venue.
Liao explained the distribution of the $3M prize pool in the four weeks of PEL Season 3:
- The PEL Season 3 will feature ¥3M ($440K) prize pool money, and the winner will take home ¥1M ($146.5K). In addition, every top 12 esports organization will receive the rest of ¥2M ($293K).
- The PEL Season 3 Grand Final will feature ¥5M ($730K) in prize money.
- Every week, PEL will also offer a ¥1M ($146.5K) reward to the top eight influential esports organizations – ¥4M ($580K) in total.
PEL Season 3 has become the highest prize money esports seasonal league in China. The tournament is hosted by Tencent in conjunction with Chinese tournament organizer VSPN, and sponsored by Chinese smartphone brand OPPO.
Liao said that the PEL expected to connect teams’ revenue with their league performance, in order to accelerate the development of PEL in a sustainable way.
Liao also released a new ranking system for PEL teams, in which the top two teams will represent PEL to attend the Peacekeeper Elite World Championship, competing for $2M total prize money with international teams.
Liao also revealed that the upcoming Peacekeeper Elite Championship (PEC) will feature ¥12M ($1.75M) in prize money, with the winner taking home ¥5M ($730K). The competition will also be hosted in conjunction with VSPN in the Shanghai Eastern Sports Center from Nov.13-15.
