PowerOfEvil claims that NA is underrated, and feels confident about winning LCS Finals

Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage is one of those classic names that everybody has heard of once in a lifetime if you do like competitive League of Legends.

This veteran mid laner began his competitive career back in 2014 in Germany, his homeland, and from that moment he has been part of the highest competitive leagues with several legendary organizations, like Unicorns of Love, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Origen or Misfits Gaming.

In 2017, PowerOfEvil crossed the ocean to compete in the North American League of Legends Championship Series (LCS), with OpTic Gaming. One year later, the mid laner joined Counter Logic Gaming and, after another mediocre year, signed with FlyQuest in November 2019.

In FlyQuest, he met some other big names of the competitive scene and made team with V1per in the top lane, Santorin in the jungle, and WildTurtle and IgNar in the bot lane.

2020 has been a very good year for PowerOfEvil and his team. They started the Spring season strong, reaching the top positions very soon, although they ended the regular season in fourth place due to some lost games that made the team sub V1per for Solo.

After struggling a lot in Spring Playoffs, they managed to get out of losers bracket and, for the first time in the history of FlyQuest, the organization was part of the LCS finals… but Cloud9 destroyed them.

Summer Split started with very good vibes, and FlyQuest has reaffirmed itself as one of the strongest teams in the region. They ended the regular season in third place, with only one victory less than the second qualified, Cloud9, and two less than the first qualified, Team Liquid.

In Playoffs, they won their first series against Evil Geniuses in the first round, and in the second round, they took their revenge against Cloud9, winning them 3-1 and qualifying for 2020 World Championship! In the Semifinals, they faced the champion of the regular season, Team Liquid, and won the series 3-2. With that result, they were the first team to qualify to the LCS Summer Finals.

After that victory, PowerOfEvil had an interview with win.gg where he talked about how great he was feeling with his team success. He claimed that, during the series against Team Liquid, he felt like they were the stronger team that day.

When asked about what has made FlyQuest so strong this split, PowerOfEvil answered:

“All players know what our strengths are. We know each other’s strengths and weaknesses, too. Everyone has their picks ready and counter picks ready. And we have a really, really fast pickup of the meta. We are all motivated to spam games in solo queue. Even just getting better, we have a lot of talks and arguments about how we should approach the game and get better. That really helps us.”

PowerOfEvil showed himself pretty confident. He is not afraid of what team will they face in the LCS Summer Finals. Actually, their victories against TSM during the regular season and their success in the Semifinals against TL gave them “the mental edge on both teams” – PowerOfEvil said.

When he was asked about what does it mean for him to bring FlyQuest to the 2020 World Championship, he gave a very honest answer:

“I’m extremely happy to make it to Worlds. IgNar and I haven’t made it since we were in Misfits three years ago. For WildTurtle it was even longer, maybe five years for him. For all of us, we’re extremely excited to make it back there. We’re a veteran team with somewhat old players making it back to that stage. We are extremely happy to be performing how we are performing”.

Obviously, his goal at Worlds is to do his best and go as far as the team can, despite the expectations for the North American teams are very low, and the region is kind of a meme for other top regions.

Actually, the interviewer, Olivia, asked him about this topic, to see if PowerOfEvil thinks that fans are underestimating their region this year. This was the answer:

If you look at the past years, obviously other regions have done better than NA at Worlds. But I still think that NA is underrated.

The teams that go to Worlds need to prove the fans wrong. That’s how I see it. I’m not too upset. I’m just going to try my best to change that narrative.

It’s only a matter of time before FlyQuest shows us the true potential of North America. Will they surprise us again?
