Riot Games has unveiled the Valorant Champions Tour Game Changers – a competition series designed to promote esports opportunities for women and other marginalized genders.
The program will be divided into two initiatives. The Game Changers Series will operate similar to 2020’s Ignition Series with Riot spotlighting regional tournaments and elevating them to top tier status. The first of these events will take place in North America in late March.
The second initiative, known as Game Changers Academy, will be a series of monthly tournaments for players at the semi-pro and grassroots level. These events will be organized in partnership with women’s Valorant community Galorants, which assisted in organizing last year’s FTW Summer Showdown.
The Summer Showdown began as a small women-only tournament organized by Galorants and Comcast Spectacor’s women’s initiative FTW. Riot then elevated the tournament to Ignition Series status, its winner Team MAJKL was eventually signed by Cloud9 as a full-fledged professional Valorant roster.
