Call of Duty Modern Warfare gamers are being held in-game by a “checking for update” error.
The problem is affecting both Modern Warfare and COD Warzone right now and leaves those affected unable to play.
From the reports being shared, MW gamers are unable to complete the sign-in process they would usually follow.
This includes the Modern Warfare and Warzone servers checking for updates, a process that it cannot complete right now.
It appears that servers are temporarily stuck, leaving Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Warzone offline.
And that means that all game modes and Call of Duty core service are down tonight, with many regions said to be affected.
It’s unclear what has caused tonight’s problems or how long the COD server issues might last.
Guidance on the situation is expected to be shared by Activision and developers Infinity Ward tonight if problems continue.
Some COD gamers are reporting being able to get past the initial updating process to then be put in a Call of Duty server queue.
“I get put in a server queue that gives a 2 minute estimate wait time and then after about 2 minutes it goes up to 3 before jumping again to 6 mins,” one affected gamer writes.
Another adds: “I’m stuck too but it has put me in a queue for 2min and 4sec then I got stuck at checking for update. But it’s because of maintenance.”
