Activision has confirmed that developers Infinity Ward have decided to push back the release of Call of Duty Modern Warfare Season 4.
This means that the next COD Warzone update might not be coming this week on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
No new release date has been confirmed for Call of Duty Season 4, meaning we can’t know for sure when things will begin.
But the good news is that there is no reason to believe that Season 4 won’t arrive sometime during June 2020.
Infinity Ward had originally said that COD Warzone Season 4 was ready to roll out on Wednesday, June 3.
The change in dates was confirmed in a new statement that reads: “While we all look forward to playing the new seasons Modern Warfare, Warzone and Call of Duty: Mobile, now is not the time.
“We are moving the launches of Modern Warfare Season 4 and Call of Duty: Mobile Season 7 to later dates.
“Right now it’s time for those speaking up for equality, justice and change to be seen and heard. We stand alongside you.”
Fans believe that areas of the map might be changed dramatically on PS4, Xbox One and PC when Season 4 arrives.
This could include The Dam being destroyed, affecting other areas of the Verdansk map, with data miners reporting finding new sound files of ice cracking, among other things.
A range of new weapons, skins and maps are also expected to arrive as part of the Modern Warfare bundle.
This will reportedly include new melee weapons, although it’s unclear if these will come to both Modern Warfare and Warzone.
Developers Infinity Ward has yet to provide its plans or patch notes for Season 4 and it’s unclear whether these will be shared in the coming days.
New Playlist changes could also be on the cards, with Duos currently in the mix and expected to stick around for a while.
A number of other Playlists for Warzone have also leaked, including one that allows you to start with your own loadout, another that features the gas always moving, and another that makes the gas always move faster than a player.
Another that could replace the current lineup is one that allows dead players to duke it out in the Gulag until the final three circles, with no buybacks allowed.
It is also unclear if new playlist changes will go live this week, or if players will have to wait for the next Call of Duty update.
More news and updates are expected to be shared by Activision when we get closer to the rescheduled release date of Season 4.
The latest story update from Activision gives some clues to what’s coming next, telling COD fans: “The quickening instability in Verdansk, following the fall of the Armisitice, is becoming a bigger threat, maybe even bigger than Al-Qatala.
“After an intercepted phone call between Target Denver and one of his elite soldiers, we learned of Armistice finally bringing out their ace in the hole: Task Force 141’s finest in Captain John Price and the final squad member he nominated to this Tier One group.
“The trailer recaps everything we know so far: chemical weapons are in the wild, Mr. Z is still at large and his plan of aiding AQ and disrupting alliances in the East and West is working: Armistice Operators are “targeting their own,” according to Ghost.
“Mr. Z’s plan is causing absolute chaos and only a few options are left on the table. Can Captain Price offer to take another “business trip” and stop this explosive in-fighting that is building towards a global war?
“What happens next? That, Operator, is up to you to decide. Stay tuned for a few more character biographies in the coming days to further ingrain you within this universe.”
