Activision and developers Infinity Ward have been pretty consistent when it has come to weekly Call of Duty Modern Warfare updates. These have varied in size and importance throughout the game’s lifecycle, with some providing simple playlist changes, while others have contained COD Warzone.
And there are still plenty of changes that could be released over the coming weeks if the latest leaks are anything to go by. The most recent patch that went live brought back Trios mode in Warzone, stripping away the Shotguns and Snipers variant.
Here is the information shared by Infinity Ward earlier this month:
Modern Warfare Playlist changes:
- Adding Drop Zone in both core and Hardcore (Removes Deathmatch Domination)
- Adding ‘Stir Crazy’ Playlist – 10v10 playlist with Cranked, Kill Confirmed, Domination, and Hardpoint
- Adding Hardcore ‘Stir Crazy’ Playlist – 10v10 playlist with Kill Confirmed, Cranked, Domination, and Team Deathmatch
- Removing NVG Realism Mosh Pit
Warzone Playlist Changes:
- Adding “Scopes and Scatter Guns” BR Trios playlist – Snipers and Shotguns only (Replaced by regular BR Trios on April 16)
So what could be coming in the next Call of Duty Modern Warfare update? According to dataminers, Warzone Duos mode is currently set to launch during Season 3.

- PS5 release date UPDATE: Bad news for next-gen PlayStation customers
It should be noted that no set release date has been offered for when this might drop, meaning it might not happen this week.
There’s been plenty of playlist changes being swapped in and out in recent weeks, so it will be interesting to see if Duos drops soon.
And Warzone isn’t the only mode that’s set to new content drop, with Modern Warfare multiplayer lined up to receive new maps and Operators.
Gamers can look forward to the release of Aisle 9 and Hardhat maps, alongside as well as two new operators.
Other stuff is also being primed, with special events set to be launched during the lifecycle of Warzone.
These remain very hush-hush and sadly aren’t expected to arrive later this week, or during April 2020.
WHAT TIME DOES THE NEW CALL OF DUTY MODERN WARFARE UPDATE RELEASE?
While we don’t know exactly what will be included in Call of Duty Modern Warfare’s next update, we do have a good idea when it might launch.
Based on previous weeks, Activision will likely launch its next Playlist update on Tuesday, April 21, 2020.
If it’s set to be a small patch, COD gamers will likely see if launch around 6pm, BST, on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
However, if Activision is launching something meatier, there’s a chance that they will wait until the early of April 22 instead.
The COD development team have been releasing patches at later times to put less strain on servers, what with there being so much more traffic right now.
So this could be an early indication that something big is being released this week by Infinity Ward.
The support team may also launch several smaller patches throughout the week for the same reason.
More news will likely be shared in the coming days that will give us a better picture of how the rest of April is going to play out.
