Developers Raven Software has released a new Call of Duty Warzone update today that makes changes to the DMR-14, Mac-10, Dual pistols and the Type 63.
These have all been classed as over-powered by COD fans over recent weeks and have finally received weapon balance changes today.
It will take a few weeks to work out whether the changes go far enough, and there are already rumblings online among fans that the Call of Duty Warzone DMR nerf isn’t enough.
One fan writes after the DMR nerf was released: “Sadly, it’s almost exactly the same. Just need stopping power for the 2 shot and/or 2 headshots and 1 body.
“It really just takes “one more shot to kill” and kills just as fast to the body. At 450rpm or so, that’s like 800rpm AR at range with 30 body damage (instead of 60 for 400rpm). Mix in one headshot, and that’s a ridiculous TTK still.”
And others posted today: “Considering I only hit people in the body and legs and still melt, looks like DMR will still be meta…
“Depends on the recoil, though. If you can’t just spam shots with no recoil considerations, this should help.
“Any gun should be decent if you hit your shots. Heavy hitters should be more difficult to do so.”
Raven Software detailed what exactly has changed for each weapon in their Warzone patch notes.
The details are pretty short, meaning there hasn’t been any big deep-dive into the stats of each weapon.
And from what has been shared, it appears the Warzone DMR nerf has been focused on reducing head damage and increasing recoil.
This means that the weapon itself should still be very effective when it comes to fire rate and the distance it can be used to hit people.
The decrease in weapon damage to the head should make it less potent at range, but it sounds like fans want to see more nerfs in the future.
The shortlist of changes from Raven Software can be found below:
- DMR 14 – Reduced headshot damage, increased recoil
- Type 63 – Reduced headshot damage, increased recoil
- Mac-10 – Decreased headshot multiplier
- Dual pistols – Increased hip fire spread, decreased damage range

The DMR quickly cemented itself as the go-to weapon to unlock and level up as it provided a unique mix of traits.
While the DMR-14 in Warzone is a Tactical Rifle, it can be upgraded via the Gunsmith to have 40 rounds and an increase to both damage range and bullet velocity.
Combine that with a selection of mid-range scopes and a high firepower rate, and you’ve got quite the package.
That’s without mentioning that the DMR doesn’t appear to suffer from any kind of weapon drop-off, making it deadly from half the map away.
I’ve never been one to opt for a tactical rifle in Warzone but having seen the devastation the DMR can cause; I can see why it’s dominating.
The DMR is a perfect choice for a Duos game as it can put down two players with just a few of its many bullets.
Not only that, but the speed in which you can do this makes it very hard to fight back against.
It will be interesting to see if these latest changes are enough to make Warzone more playable for those fans who have taken issue with it.
Raven has also confirmed that an exciting playlist update is being worked on for Thursday, January 7, which will see the return of the Resurgence Mode on the Rebirth Island map.
That will make it possible again to play Trios with respawning enabled, rather than being put in one of the new Gulags.
Here are the upcoming Warzone playlist update changes being planned for Thursday:
Adding:
- Plunder – Quads
- Rebirth Island – Mini Royale Duos, Resurgence Trios
Removing:
- Plunder – Blood Money Trios
- Rebirth Island – Mini Royale Quads
