Civilization 6 Update Coming Next Week – Includes Zombies And Portugal

So remember last week when some Steam Achievement updates spoiled us for Civilization 6’s last new civ? Well, we just got the confirmation in the latest development update video that Portugal will be the last to arrive as part of the New Frontier Pass. Oh, and zombies will also eat your brains as a new game mode.

Firaxis folks confirmed the deets on Portugal as a new naval-focused civilization that emphasizes maritime trade and combat. They didn’t get into too many details, but the new Portuguese World Wonder certainly has a naval theme to it.

The Torre de Belém provides Portuguese players with extra gold and Admiral Points per turn and also provides bonus gold for every luxury source on destinations that are also on international trade routes. And once constructed, the Torre de Belém gives players a free building in their other cities.

For the second World Wonder, Babylon gets the Etemenanki ziggurat. This big pyramid gives Babylonian players bonus science and production for units working on marsh and floodplains tiles. And to give that a little extra kick, the new map script will have a whole lot of marshes in it.

New World Wonders and Portugal are all well and good, but can science or naval prowess stop the zombie invasion? The new Zombie Defense game mode imagines a world where it’s not just other civilizations that you have to compete against. Zombies are everywhere, and it’s up to everyone to stop them.

In Zombie Defense, each unit killed by a zombie becomes a zombie, and every unit slain has a random chance to become a zombie even if it wasn’t a zombie that killed them. So there’s always going to be zombies. The only good news is that zombies are too stupid to avoid the new traps and barricades that you can build in defense.

Most of the new game mode is going to be defending yourself from zombies, but two new city projects can turn those zombies on your enemies thanks to some clever planning.

Portugal and Zombies arrive on March 25 as part of the New Frontier Pass or available as a separate purchase. After that, April will bring the last free content update for everyone.

Actually a collective of 6 hamsters piloting a human-shaped robot, Sean hails from Toronto, Canada. Passionate about gaming from a young age, those hamsters would probably have taken over the world by now if they didn’t vastly prefer playing and writing about video games instead.

The hamsters are so far into their long-con that they’ve managed to acquire a bachelor’s degree from the University of Waterloo and used that to convince the fine editors at TheGamer that they can write “gud werds,” when in reality they just have a very sophisticated spellchecker program installed in the robot’s central processing unit.
