In the least surprising turn of events ever, angry console warriors have turned a seemingly innocuous tweet from the official Insomniac Games Twitter account into yet another silly debate around Sony vs Microsoft.
In the lead up to launch for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, the Insomniac Games Twitter account has continued to tease screenshots and gifs from its next big game. They’ve all been inoffensive (and still are), but there are some folks among us determined to read a little too deep for the sake of yelling about their platform.
“These bots won’t even know what hit ’em,” was today’s big offender, and don’t worry, take all the time you need to try to figure out why that would make anyone angry. It took me several minutes of staring to try and undertand what sinister messaging could possibly be lurking in the latest console crime.
Apparently, it’s the word “bot,” which some PlayStation fans use to bully Xbox players. Xbot is the real term, and it’s pretty silly. Regardless, none of that matters, because that’s not the aim of this tweet. Bots have long been a major part of Ratchet and Clank games, long before our brave console warriors on Twitter were arguing about which giant cooperation was selling you the better expensive machine.
In the most ridiculous turn of events, senior community manager Aaron Jason Espinoza had to clarify that the tweet was taking aim at anyone’s favorite platform. The folks at Insomniac aren’t interested in egging on one of the internet’s most annoying debates, please leave these people alone and let them do their jobs.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough for some folks – and the arguing kept going. It seems both Sony and Microsoft’s bizarre group of internet defenders absolutely believe this is a dig at Xbox. Sony’s loudest warriors were confident this was a brilliant subtweet directed at Xbox fans, while Xbox folks were convinced they’d been done dirty. None of which was true, so continue enjoying your games on whatever platform. You’ll be okay.
