Dead Space: Downfall Proves Shared Bathrooms Were Always Canon

Last week, the Dead Space remake was criticised by, and let's call a spade a spade, bigoted idiots for featuring gender-neutral bathrooms. They expectedly screamed woke and saw it as the remake shoving the leftist agenda down their throats (do you not have gender-neutral bathrooms at home?) In reality, they've been a thing since Downfall.

If you haven't heard of Downfall, don't worry. It's a slightly obscure straight-to-DVD animated Dead Space film that came out in the same year as the first game, 2008, which was 15 years ago. The film itself is a prequel but is also set after the comic series. Like the game, it takes place on the iconic USG Ishimura. And, as highlighted by Gloomwood dev Dillon Rogers, it had gender-neutral bathrooms full of necromorphs.

To sum up – a movie came out the same year as the first Dead Space and confirmed gender-neutral bathrooms exist in-universe. It's not a new concept, nor is it something the remake came up with. Hell, as the tweet Rogers quoted said, Aliens (which inspired Dead Space) had them too! They're normal – shocker.

Downfall has surprisingly high ratings for a video game movie, landing a 6.3 out of ten on IMDb, though it does have an audience score of only 42 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, with many in the Twitter thread embedded above warning people away from it. You can find it in its entirety on YouTube if you're feeling curious, though.

And if you missed the whole bathroom debacle, it was sparked by a few discussion threads on the Steam Community forums, where people were not only angry at these shared bathrooms but at the fact Johnston was replaced by a Black woman while Kendra and Nicole looked closer to their actual age. The bathroom issue was such a dealbreaker that someone even cancelled their order – who are the snowflakes again? Oh right.

This unfortunately spilt out of the forums and into the reviews, with many trying to drag its score down in protest of the boogeyman that is the woke agenda (i.e. human decency). Luckily, it's only a small number, as Dead Space's remake still sits at Very Positive with 12,825 reviews. No matter how angry those on the forums might get, they're not doing much to dent the praise.

Regardless, their complaints are 15 years late. Dead Space has had gender-neutral bathrooms since 2008, and it will likely continue to do so in whatever comes next. I'm still holding out hope for Dead Space 4 – bring back John Carver.
