The announcement trailer for The Outer Worlds 2 openly admits the game isn’t ready to be shown, and there’s no sign of Xbox exclusivity yet.
It was already believed that a sequel to The Outer Worlds would happen, but there was no official confirmation of its existence until today.
As part of Microsoft’s E3 presentation, a pre-rendered trailer for The Outer Worlds 2 was revealed, one that was completely upfront with how it was too early to show anything meaningful about it.
The narration completely consists of actively making fun of the trailer itself, from its use of slow motion and lens flares. As such, we have no details about the game outside of a title and logo. There’s not even a vague release year, which could mean it’s several years away from actually releasing.
There’s also no mention of the game being an Xbox exclusive. With Microsoft owning developer Obsidian and handling publishing duties, it being strictly an Xbox release seems like a guarantee.
The first Outer Worlds was a multiplatform game, so the sequel could end up being a limited exclusive first and release on other platforms afterwards. Plus, it’s unclear whether it’ll release on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S or strictly be a Series X/S release. But we’ll have to wait for confirmation from Microsoft and/or Obsidian.
The Outer Worlds 2 is in development.
