EA Play Live is an extension of gaming giant Electronic Art’s previous EA Play events that were held surrounding the E3 gaming show in recent years. With E3 2020 canceled completely due to the COVID-19 crisis, EA shifted its plans and held a completely digital show to show off its latest games, and you can check out the entire show right here and learn all about the games announced and demonstrated.

Apex Legends
Smash-hit battle royale game Apex Legends is getting cross-play support for Xbox One, PS4, and PC, bringing it in line with other major multiplayer titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Fortnite. Additionally, the game will be coming to Switch and Steam. The game is currently on Season 5. A new event called Lost Treasures is coming June 23.
The Sims 4
During a section devoted to The Sims 4, EA and Maxis highlighted how the game’s community can express itself regardless of their identity or differences. The development team thanked its fans for their support and announced that The Sims 4 is now available on Steam.
It Takes Two
Hazelight’s Josef Fares is known as much for his impromptu rant at The Game Awards as he is his games Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and A Way Out, but the passionate director is back with EA Originals for It Takes Two. The cooperative action-adventure game will be a “crazy rollercoaster ride” without a clear ending, and it attempts to combine narrative and gameplay together smoothly. It’s coming in 2021.
Lost in Random
A completely different type of game also launching under the EA Originals banner, Lost in Random is set in a Nightmare Before Christmas style world and stars a young girl and a die companion. The land has been overtaken by a curse and using dice is the key to breaking it and freeing people from their dastardly fates. The game is by Fe developer Zoink and was first announced back in 2019.
Rocket Arena
Final Strike Games’ Rocket Arena is part Overwatch, part Super Smash Bros., and it’s now being published by Electronic Arts. The game comes to PS4, Xbox One, and PC on July 14 with cross-platform support, and the standard edition will only set you back $30. There will be 10 characters playable at launch as well as 10 maps, and you’ll be able to use in-game currency to purchase the season pass.
Star Wars: Squadrons
EA showed the first gameplay demonstration for Star Wars: Squadrons, which ran for several minutes and included a look at first-person dogfighting combat. The inside of ships show the instruments at your disposal, and you’ll also have a view at your depleting shields. The campaign will feature both Imperial and New Republic missions split between two pilots, and signature multiplayer mode Fleet Battles is a three-phase fight culminating in an attack on a giant capital ship. Multiplayer supports crossplay across PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and the entire game supports VR.
EA Sports
EA featured a supercut of footage from its next-generation sports titles, including FIFA and Madden. We saw incredibly detailed visuals for the fields as well as the players, and a quick tease of Tom Brady in a Tampa Bay uniform for the first time. However, we did not get to see any live gameplay.
Next-Generation Games
EA is working on next-generation projects at several of its major studios, including DICE, EA Motive, BioWare, and Criterion Games. Critereon specifically is currently working on the Need For Speed franchise after taking several years to focus on other projects, and DICE is working on making Battlefield even bigger than before. BioWare, meanwhile, will continue working on games with rich stories and characters, and alongside Star Wars: Squadrons, EA Motive is working on a new IP. This game will feature some degree of player-created content.
Skate
It is very early in development, but EA is officially working on a new Skate game. It doesn’t appear to have an official name yet, but the game will be the first in the series in over a decade. EA said fans “commented this into existence.” We did it, gamers.
Is E3 Canceled?
E3 2020 was originally scheduled to take place from June 9-11, but the ESA–the organization behind the annual expo–announced that this year’s show would be canceled due to COVID-19 pandemic. Other gaming events, such GDC 2020 and SXSW, have similarly been canceled or postponed over coronavirus concerns.
Even if E3 2020 had gone on as planned, the show would have been missing many of its biggest players. PlayStation had announced it would skip the event for the second year in a row, and iam8bit stepped away from its position as E3 2020’s creative director. Geoff Keighley, host of E3 Coliseum, also announced he would not participate in the event for the first time in 25 years. A handful of companies, such as Microsoft, Ubisoft, and Limited Run Games, have already announced their plans to explore digital alternatives to E3.
