EA Sports FC 24 is new name for Fifa and will include PS5 vs Xbox matches

EA Sports has made its first football game in the post-Fifa era the most connected across devices ever.

Gamers will be able to cross-play EA Sports FC 24 and battle it out with each other between PCs, Xbox Series X and PS5s across all major game modes as the developers push hard on interconnectivity no matter your machine of choice.

Even old school players won’t have to stick to their console of choice, with PS4 and Xbox One gamers able to battle it out with each other on the electronic footie pitch.

They’ve added in extra modes this year as the developers move away from the traditional Fifa branding to deliver what they hope is an unrivalled footballing video game experience.

The game was unveiled on Thursday night at a big-budget event in Amsterdam in front of an invited audience, including a few famous football faces like Didier Drogba, Alex Scott and Luis Figo.

It is the successor to the decades old Fifa franchise as the game firm parts ways with the soccer body.

Electronic Arts has taken huge amounts of data from more than 180 professional men’s and women’s football matches this year to reflect real-world movement in-game more than ever before.

Jerseys flap accurately in the wind, balls dance around the pitch as you’d expect and players act on the digital grass just like the do in real life.

And they’re introducing PlayStyles, a deep-dive into individual stars which goes beyond their Opta stats to bring to life those unique on-pitch abilities that make them special.

Each PlayStyle gives players unique capabilities you’ll see and feel that make their way of playing more authentic.

And while Fifa might not be backing this title, plenty of other big name footballing outfits are.

EA has signed an exclusive deal with the Premier League to “authentically represent” every athlete, club, and stadium in the league in the game.

They’ve also tied up with UEFA to showcase the Champions League and Spain’s LaLiga and the German Bundesliga to include their contests.

Plus we’ve got far more of the women’s game this year.

Women’s football will feature in fan favourite online mode Ultimate Team for the first time and you’ll be able to mix your teams up with men and women.

Andrea Hopelain, of EA Sports, said: “Celebrating sport for all is what continues to drive and inspire us.

“That’s why we’re proud to announce the most inclusive and diverse iteration of the game so far.

“Whether it’s playing with the biggest player pool we’ve ever had in Ultimate Team or with new leagues like Liga F and the Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga, EA Sports is proud to champion the women’s game virtually and physically.”

But it is hoped the true diversity of cross-platform gaming across consoles and PCs is what is going to bring football loving gamers together into one community.

Cross-play will now work across all core modes, from co-op seasons with pals to Volta street-style football, as well as clubs, ultimate team and online seasons and friendlies.

“EA Sports has defined interactive football for 30 years, and now we’re bringing fans closer to the sport they love through EA Sports FC,” said Cam Weber, President of EA Sports.

“This is the next great chapter in our mission to create the future of football with fans everywhere, and it begins with FC 24 delivering incredible authenticity combined with a massive leap in gameplay innovation. Welcome to the Club.”

The game will be available to play on September 29.
