Multiple video games companies have made major contributions to BLM charities, as well as agreeing to ‘double-match’ employee donations.
Many companies have already pledged their support to the anti-racism protests in America, but in some cases they’ve been criticised for merely paying lip service to the cause and jumping on a PR bandwagon.
But it’s since emerged that many video game companies have also made sizeable monetary donations to various related charities.
EA has donated $1 million (£790,000) to organisations such as the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) and the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, with CEO Andrew Wilson stating on a blog that this was part of an ongoing ‘long-term commitment’.
Square Enix has pledged $250,000 (£198,000) to anti-racism charities, while Ubisoft has donated the equivalent of £79,000, and Devlover Digital £52,000.
Many companies, including Square Enix and Sony (including The Last Of Us Part 2 developer Naughty Dog) have also agreed to match any charitable donation made by its employees.
Matching charitable donations is a common policy at many large companies, but EA has gone further and agreed to ‘double-match’ donations for this month.
