The coronavirus has claimed another gaming event, as EGX Rezzed has now been cancelled, with plans to hold it later in the summer.
Over the last few months, pretty much every major gaming event has had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus, be it a large scale one like E3 or smaller community-centric ones. And now we can add another victim to the list.
EGX Rezzed, which was intended to run from 26 – 28 March at Tobacco Dock, London, was confirmed cancelled earlier today by ReedPop, the company that organises it.
Fortunately, ReedPop does plan on holding the event later in the year, sometime in the summer.
‘Having monitored the situation around COVID-19 constantly over these last few weeks and following many hours of conversation internally and with our partners, we have taken the incredibly difficult decision to move EGX: Rezzed to Summer 2020 with date and announcement forthcoming,’ stated organisers ReedPop.
‘Wedid everything that we could to try to run the event as planned, butultimately, maintaining social distancing is neither feasible at, nor in thespirit of, the interactive and community nature of Rezzed. It is the communitythat makes Rezzed so special and it is our duty to make sure that your safetycomes first.
‘Ourthoughts go out to everyone affected by the COVID-19 virus in what is anincredibly challenging time, and we remain determined to run EGX: Rezzed in2020 for everyone who has looked forward to and wants to attend the show.’
ReedPop has also confirmed that anyone who initially bought tickets for Rezzed won’t have to buy new ones; already purchased tickets will be valid for when the event actually takes place.
Itadded that, should anyone be unable to attend the new dates, they should contactcustomer services by sending an email to [email protected].
It has also been reported that EGX Rezzed’s sister show, MCM Birmingham, has been hit with a delay as well. It was intended to run from 21 – 22 March, but already has new dates of 27 – 28 June.
