After two fairly underwhelming bosses, Rowena gets to test her mettle against something a bit tougher. Olgoi-Khorkhoi is the challenger this time, and despite being visually similar to some of the enemies you have already fought in Fallen Legion Revenants, this thing brings a bunch of interesting attacks to the fight that make it quite the challenge.
Olgoi-Khorkhoi mixes a bunch of mechanics to deliver a boss who can deal tremendous amounts of damage, whilst also demanding a degree of environmental perception and awareness. Throw in some interesting parry timings and there hasn’t been a boss quite like it.
Olgoi-Khorkhoi’s Attacks
Olgoi-Khorkhoi has a fair few attacks, and they consist of attacks you have seen before (or slight variations) or screen-shaking displays of power. Olgoi-Khorkhoi even has a power buff that changes up the fight.
Attack | Explanation | Counter |
---|---|---|
Claw Attack | Olgoi-Khorkhoi jumps forward and delivers a claw attack. | This attack has a deceptively long wind-up that is designed to catch you out with an early failed parry. Bide your time and parry after Olgoi-Khorkhoi flashes red. |
Acid Spit | Olgoi-Khorkhoi shoots a globule of acid at the party. | This attack is incredibly standard. You’ve seen this kind of attack before from enemies that look like Olgoi-Khorkhoi. Parry it back and counterattack. |
Spread Shot | Olgoi-Khorkhoi fires a burst of projectiles. This attack has a variant after Olgoi-Khorkhoi activates Bloodlust that deals more damage, but has slower projectiles. | Another fairly standard attack. Parry it back, and then counter. Be aware of the variation of this attack as it can catch you out. It acts as a mixup. |
Bloodlust | Olgoi-Khorkhoi buffs itself and becomes more aggressive. This buff also debuffs Olgoi-Khorkhoi’s defences. | Bloodlust is a powerful buff, but it also makes it so you can damage Olgoi-Khorkhoi easier. |
Landslide | This is Olgoi-Khorkhoi's most dangerous attack. Waves of debris will fall onto the battlefield dealing massive damage to any Exemplar caught on a tile that is being hit with Landslide. | You have two options for avoiding this attack – weave between the falling rocks, or push Olgoi-Khorkhoi to the back of the arena as there is a debuff tile that cancels this attack if Olgoi-Khorkhoi stands on it. |
Olgoi-Khorkhoi Mechanics
Olgoi-Khorkhoi doesn’t really have any unique mechanics outside of his Landslide attack which comes with an aforementioned tile that can end the attack early. You will always want to exploit this tile as avoiding Landslide is rather difficult due to the visuals not being as clear as you’d want them to be. Either use Rowena’s magic or bring Exemplars with Push Deathblows.
Which Exemplars To Use
Olgoi-Khorkhoi is weak to fire, so bringing any fire Exemplars is a great idea. We are also a huge fan of Jacquine in most fights, as her Kraken Scourge Deathblow is simply too good to pass up at dealing BP damage. By this point in the game you should have plenty of Mana to burn, so spending some of that on Jacquine is always a good idea.
Remember you will want to have some sort of Push effect in play. Take advantage of Duo Deathblows for this, or have Rowena cover that role with her magic.
Battle Strategy
Olgoi-Khorkhoi is a straightforward boss with a very powerful attack hidden in its arsenal. Landslide is well and truly the be-all and end-all of this fight. Thankfully, it’s very easy to deal with once you know what you are doing. The moment this attack starts, push Olgoi-Khorkhoi away and it will end. It really is that simple.
In the meantime, apply constant pressure by using your ranged Exemplars to keep Olgoi-Khorkhoi’s BP dropping. Remember to counter with fire Elemental Edge and to use Mana Chains so you can wrack up as much damage and Mana as possible. This will let you use your Deathblows more often, which ends this fight much sooner.
