Final Fantasy VII Remake turned out to be quite the hack n’ slash game with its fast-paced, action-packed battle system. In the midst of all the action, it might have been overwhelming to think about strategy, particularly what weapons to use.
Each weapon has its own build that is unlocked through spending SP points, and each ability is specific to that weapon only, not the character themselves. Weapon attributes can range from building up MP or HP, reducing status effects and boosting elemental damage.
There’s a lot to consider when actual thought is put into building up the character’s best fighting styles. With that, here are the best weapon choices for the best character builds.
Cloud makes for a good, heavy damage fighter whose sole purpose in the party is to bring the pain. He is a merc, after all. It’s his job to swing at anything and everything that moves–for the right price. Hardedge is the perfect sword for building Cloud up as the heavy damage dealer. It only comes with three materia slots, but since Cloud won’t be magic focused with this build, that’s ok.
Hardedge can be found in the Wall Market weapon shop.
Tifa’s Purple Pain For Magic & High Crit Damage
Tifa is best utilized as a high critical damage dealer with a pinch of magic to give her an edge. She’s quick on her feet and is usually the first to deal damage in the party. Purple Pain boosts her magic and simultaneously increases critical hit rate and damage allowing her to command the battlefield with ease. With these gloves, it’s also a good idea to give Tifa some boosts in luck.
The location for purple pain comes much later in the game in Chapter 16, so until then, metal knuckles can be used to boost her strength and speed. Purple pain is in a chest in the Shinra Tower.
Barret’s EKG Cannon For Good Balance
Since Barret can usually be found hanging back in a battle firing bullets and cannons from his arm-gun, he makes for a good magic/damage build. EKG cannon capitalizes on this, granting him strengths in ranged combat and magic damage. He also gains critical hit rate and damage with the EKG cannon which helps to build ATB bars.
The EKG cannon can be found in Chapter 16 after talking to Domino in Shinra Tower and paying Hart for it.
Aerith’s Mythril Rod For Pure Magic
From the beginning, it was clear Aerith was going to be the magic dealer of the party. Her magic stats are through the roof which makes her good not only for healing but for elemental damage as well. It can’t be stressed enough, she is not just the “white mage” of the party. She can do a lot of damage if used properly. The Mythril rod really helps to heighten her magical attacks and increases her MP so that she is capable of dishing out more spells than the others.
Mythril rod is located in the train graveyard.
