Final Fantasy VII Remake: How To Level Up Fast

When playing a JRPG like Final Fantasy VII Remake it’s natural to want to optimize your party to help them reach their full combat potential. After all, no one wants to fight giant robots or evil sentient houses with an under-leveled squad of unusually attractive badasses that barely know how to swing their swords or fire their literal hand-cannons.

With this guide, we’ll teach you some useful tips and tricks that will allow you to buff up Cloud and his crew to take down Shinra’s goons more efficiently. So let’s look at the best ways to level up quickly in Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Do Every Single Side Quest

This one should be a no-brainer. If you enter a town and there’s an option to do side quests, then forget all about saving the world and start fighting monsters and finding lost cats pronto. These quests will give you extra experience points and you’ll get rewards like items, armor, or even weapons. Plus, if the side quest involves fighting monsters, then you can use that chance to grind for even more EXP. This is a JRPG, so you have to do some grinding at some point if you want Tifa to punch enemies in the face at full force.

Easy Mode

There’s actually an advantage to playing around with the difficulty settings in Final Fantasy VII Remake. If you were planning to do a major EXP grinding session, then it may be wise to adjust the difficulty to Easy. There’s no difference in the experience points you acquire between Easy or Normal mode, so you still get the same amount while doing less work.

Battle Challenges

You’ll come across the battle challenges later on in the game and they’re another method to get some quick EXP. These can be played in Wall Market at Don Corneo’s Colosseum or through the Shinra VR Combat Simulator at the Sector 0 Shinra Electric Power Company.  You can farm tons of EXP by playing the easiest challenges over and over.  Not only are they great for leveling up, you’ll also get fabulous prizes for completing them.

There’s also a Training Center in Chapter 4 just outside of the Shinra base where you can get some extra early game EXP and gil, as long as you don’t mind repeatedly beating up Sentry Rays.

Use The Right Materia

Speaking of fabulous prizes, you’ll receive EXP UP materia for completing some of the aforementioned Shinra VR Combat Simulator challenges. In particular, there’s a challenge in Chapter 16 called Three-Person Team Vs. Team Ragbag that will give you this special materia. Much like the name implies, this will boost the amount of EXP you gain by 100%. Once you equip that, you’ll get even more experience which will make farming enemies much more lucrative.

Some Extra Leveling Up Tips

It’s unlikely that you’ll hit level 50 – which is the level cap – in your first playthrough. However, in your first run, as long as you’re over level 30 when you reach the endgame you should be fine.

For those looking to travel through Midgar again in New Game Plus, you’ll gain double the EXP in the second playthrough which should make farming even easier. You can also replay chapters in your second run to gain even more EXP.

That should be all you need to know to level up as quickly as possible. Hopefully, this will help you in your journey to exterminate every Hedgehog Pie in existence.
