Fortnite is showing free Christopher Nolan movies this Friday

Fans in the UK can watch The Prestige for free this week, as Christopher Nolan uses Fortnite to promote his new movie Tenet.

Cinema theatres may be about to open again but a lot of people are going to feel very nervous about visiting one anytime soon. But that’s okay, because they can just switch on Fortnite instead.

On Friday, 26 June you’ll be able to watch The Prestige for nothing, although it starts peculiarly early at 5pm. Meanwhile, the US gets Inception and the rest of the world will be able to watch Batman Begins.

The showings will take place in the non-combat Party Royale mode, which has already be used for a live premiere of the trailer to Nolan’s next movie, Tenet.

He’s pushed for Tenet not to miss its current release date, of 17 July, and is generally very keen on getting people into movie theatres instead of watching them at home or… via a video game.

Party Royale has already proven very successful at hosting live events, with the one featuring Travis Scott attracting over 12 million viewers.

Other artistes have drawn smaller crowds, but if you missed the Diplo one from earlier in the week – featuring Thomas Wesley, Young Thug, and Noah Cyrus – it’s going to be repeated on Monday, 29 June at 5pm, since the first time round it was shown only in the early hours of the morning.

Given how successful Party Royale is proving it’s likely to become a common marketing route for new movies and musicians in the future, and probably other games as well – given Borderlands 3 was one of the first to have its own Fortnite promotion.
