The Genshin Impact leaker known as Ubatcha has thrown in the towel after Hoyoverse publisher Cognosphere issued a subpoena to Discord asking for information on the leaker, including their name, email, phone number, and home address.
In a series of tweets, Ubatcha explained their situation. "I haven't been directly contacted by Hoyoverse," wrote Ubatcha. "The only notice I personally received was a warning on discord in August which did not state what content had to be removed, just that 'you may not share any content…' so the 'Ubatcha' account stopped posting on Discord in order to comply with the warning received."
Months after that warning was issued, Genshin Impact suffered its biggest leak ever, with nine months' worth of content spilling onto the internet. After that, Genshin Impact developer Hoyoverse and publisher Cognosphere took a much stronger stance against leaker, subpoenaing Discord to provide the details of Genshin's biggest source of leaks.
Ubatcha has both their own Discord server and previously headed the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor (WFP) Discord server. Both operated channels that proliferated leaks online, although both have since ceased operation. Ubatcha has also removed anything from their personal channel "that could possibly be seen as copyright infringing," including content posted before the August warning.
So far, Discord hasn't notified Ubatcha of sharing their personal information with law enforcement. "Either way," Ubatcha concluded, whatever happens I'm done."
Genshin Impact is certainly large enough that other avenues for leaks will appear, but they might take a little longer to reach the mainstream with both Ubatcha and WFP out of action.
In the meantime, a toxic feud rages on between Sonic Frontiers and Genshin Impact fans. Genshin Impact won the coveted Player's Voice award at The Game Awards, but that hasn't stopped Sonic fans from crying about it.
