Sony has officially announced the previously leaked Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut for PS5 and PS4, including a brand new story chapter.
Just days after it was leaked by the American age rating board, the PlayStation Blog has unveiled Ghost Of Tsushima Director’s Cut for both the PlayStation 4 and 5.
It’ll be released on August 20 and while the PlayStation 5 version will include various graphical enhancements, and make use of the DualSense, there’ll also be brand new content for both consoles.
The new content is based on Iki Island, which is also something that was previously leaked, although there’s currently no sign that it will be released as a standalone expansion.
Iki Island is a neighbour of Tsushima and will host a new chapter in the story, starring original protagonist Jin Sakai. Developer Sucker Punch isn’t revealing much of the story yet but apparently it’ll involve ‘traumatic moments from his past’.
What they are saying though is that Iki Island will feature new characters and environments, as well as new armour, mini-games, techniques, and enemies – as well as new animals to pet.
In terms of new PlayStation 5 features there’ll be proper Japanese lip synching (the original version only matched the English voiceovers) and will use the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the DualSense controller.
The 3D audio will also be improved, as will load times, and there’ll be various options for 4K resolution and 60fps frame rate.
If you already own Ghost Of Tsushima on PlayStation 4 you’ll be able to transfer your save over the PlayStation 5, which is handy as Iki Island is only available after the end of Act 2.
If you do already have the game on PlayStation 4 then you can upgrade to the Director’s Cut, but you’ll have to pay for it. There’s no UK price yet but it’ll cost $19.99 in the US, which is around £15.
If you buy the Director’s Cut on PlayStation 4 the upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version is also not free and will cost $9.99 (£7). Or if you go from the original version on PlayStation 4 to the Director’s Cut on PlayStation 5 it’ll be $29.99 (£22).
If you don’t fancy buying the Director’s Cut there will still be a free update containing new features for photo mode, a lock-on option, and new accessibility options for controller remapping.
Multiplayer expansion Ghost of Tsushima: Legends will also be getting an update, including a new mode. Legends is already free but it and all the other updates will also be a part of the Director’s Cut by default.
