The release date may have already been leaked but there were some Halo Infinite surprises at Gamescom, including the multiplayer intro.
In case you missed the memo, Halo Infinite is going to be released on December 8, or at least its campaign and multiplayer is – with the rest of the features, including campaign co-op and Forge mode, having to wait until next year.
That news leaked out hours before Gamescom started but what did come as a surprise Is a new Halo themed Xbox Series X console, to celebrate the launch of Halo Infinite and the 20th anniversary of the franchise.
It’s the first ever limited edition Xbox Series X console and will cost £479.99, i.e. £30 more than an ordinary one. It does look pretty nice though and turns on and off with unique Halo sound effects and comes with a matching limited edition controller.
The Halo Infinite Limited Edition Elite Series 2 controller is a completely different device, as is made obvious by the fact that it costs a whopping £179.99.
Again, it does look good, and the Elite Series are top notch controllers, especially compared to the slightly lacklustre standard Xbox Series X gamepad. It’s expensive but it comes with an exclusive Halo Elite controller weapon charm to use in-game, so you can show off your purchase to everyone online.
The controller is out on November 15, which may well have been the originally intended release date for the game.
Speaking of which, although there was still no new footage of the campaign mode (which, release date or not, is getting really worrying) there was the Season 1 cinematic intro for Halo Infinite’s multiplayer.
It’s just a bit of CGI, but it’s very nice and introduces Commander Agryna, who’s in charge of the academy training new Spartans and will presumably play a major role in the overarching story.
