News of a League of Legends MMO was first revealed late last year, but Riot Games has been quiet in the following months. That’s all changed, however, as the game’s existence – along with a few other details – have been confirmed by a new page on Riot’s official website.
Much of the site is targeted towards job seekers, as Riot is currently hiring for dozens of positions related to the League of Legends MMO. However, it’s clear that the company is no longer trying to hide the game’s existence:
“No, you’re not dreaming, we’re working on an MMORPG based in the League universe,” the webpage reads. “We know MMOs take a lot of people to create, and we’ll need a pretty big raid team if we want to bring Runeterra to life.” Although the team prefers industry veterans who have worked on an MMO, it’s not a requirement for every role.
Below the announcement is a listing for folks with the following experience:
- Gameplay Engineering
- Game Design
- UX Design
- Game Art (All Sub-Disciplines)
- Game Production
The website doesn’t provide an official name, release date, or available platforms for the upcoming MMO. Still, it’s promising to hear more about the title, as Riot had been radio silent for the past three months.
Riot Games continues to launch spin-off titles related to League of Legends. Valorant was the first new title from the studio, although it’s also working on a fighting game alongside the recently confirmed MMO.
League of Legends: Wild Rift – the mobile MOBA spin-off – is also heading to market soon, with an open beta planned for March 29.
It’s not all good news for the studio, however, as it recently found itself in the throes of a sexual harassment lawsuit. A subsequent board investigation into the situation found “no evidence of wrongdoing on the part of CEO Nicolas Laurent.
