We’ve barely entered into December and there are already heart-warming stories flooding in to soften the hardship of 2020. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and the holiday season is never in short supply of touching tales.
Shared by redditor MisterJ2590, one such story concerns the upcoming action RPG Cyberpunk 2077, which looks like it will release on its third attempt after all (pardon the jinx). CD Projekt Red’s game is on track to take the public by storm on December 10, which will no doubt take up a majority of your time that should’ve been allocated to Christmas shopping. Aside from that, the redditor’s experience in a local GameStop proves that there are a lot of good people on this planet.
Arriving in the store to pay off his Cyberpunk 2077 pre-order, the redditor joins the queue and begins discussing the game with other customers. One guy was there to cancel his collector’s edition because he recently had a baby, stating that his issue was time, not money. Another customer shared his disappointment over not being able to afford the game, due to his recent job loss because of the pandemic. In one charitable swoop, the customer canceling his collector’s edition continues to pay for it and hands his receipt to the guy who couldn’t afford it. What a legend.
The redditor continued to express this touching act of kindness by sharing the overwhelming emotion that the recipient felt after being handed his ticket to Night City. “Hands down almost cried myself,” the redditor admitted, who added that this is the kind of material we need to tap into right now. Winter will be a tough time for some which is why it’s comforting to hear about the spread of random generosity.
GameStop also offered customers the chance to upgrade their Nintendo Switch to a newer version last year. The retailer offered to pay customers up to $200 in store credit for their old consoles, which would have been a great saving for some. During the summer, Pokemon Go developer Niantic showed its charitable side by donating $10 million to Black Lives Matter and other activist organizations.
