Mass Effect 4 gets official reveal trailer and so does Dragon Age 4

The new Mass Effect has got its first cinematic trailer and it features Liara T’Soni and the implication that it’s set in the Milky Way.

Although technically BioWare has already promised a new Mass Effect is on the way, and has even shared a few pieces of production artwork, given the recent upheaval at the studio getting an official trailer will be warmly welcomed by fans.

At first it doesn’t seem to reveal much, other than Liara T’Soni is in it. There’s no official name (so it may not actually be called Mass Effect 4) and no confirmation of when exactly it’s set in terms of the previous three games and spin-off Andromeda.

Asari like Liara can live for up to a thousand years, so the fact that she’s in the trailer, but none of the other familiar characters are, may suggest a major time gap between this and the original trilogy.

What the trailer does appear to give away though is that the game is set in our own Milky Way, with images of destroyed Mass Relays, and the Andromeda galaxy very pointedly off in the background.

Pervious rumours have suggested that BioWare won’t be completely ignoring Andromeda though as the artwork seems to show the Angara aliens that are only from that galaxy.

There’s not much else to discern from the trailer, or at least we don’t think there’s anyway to tell what the ice planet is.

That’s clearly the Mudskipper from the production artwork in the background though, along with what seems to be a salarian, turian, and krogan standing next to it.

The object Liara picks up from the ground seems to be a fragment of N7 armour, although that’s probably just an excuse to get the logo on screen.

Mass Effect wasn’t the only BioWare game at The Game Awards, as the new Dragon Age (which also hasn’t got a proper name yet) also got a new trailer.

It didn’t reveal much either, just a glimpse at the new setting of Tevinter and returning character Solas.

In that sense it was a bit of a disappointment, because Dragon Age is supposed to be out first and yet judging by this trailer, and the fact we haven’t seen any gameplay footage yet, it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be finished anytime soon.
