Master Chief in the Halo TV show trailer looks absolutely perfect

Microsoft has released the first proper trailer for the Halo TV show but there’s still no clue as to when and how it’ll be shown in the UK.

As with seemingly everything to do with Halo at the moment, the TV series based on Microsoft’s iconic shooter has been in the works for a very long time, having first been announced alongside the Xbox One eight years ago.

A lot has changed since then, not least the fact that Master Chief was previously only going to feature in the occasional cameo but is now front and centre as one of the main characters.

There’s no sign of the Covenant in the trailer, but it’s so short that doesn’t mean much. But it’s certainly going to be interesting to see how many aliens they have running around as none of Halo’s creatures are going to be easy to portray without expensive looking CGI.

To be fair, expensive looking CGI doesn’t seem to be in short supply in the trailer, but it’s Master Chief himself that’s the most impressive, as he looks exactly like he should – which is going to please fans.

He’s being played by Pablo Schreiber (Nick Sobotka from The Wire), but whether you’ll get to see his face in the show isn’t clear yet. Although to be honest, we’re a bit hazy on why it’s never shown in the games, unless he’s a secret Mandalorian.

The show runs to nine episodes, so it’s a substantial chunk of Halo-related entertainment, but the obvious problem is that it’s a Paramount+ show in the US and yet, much like HBO Max, there is no Paramount+ in the UK.

It’ll get here eventually but in the meantime there’ll probably be a deal with a local channel, or perhaps Netflix, which has Paramount’s Star Trek shows in the UK.

The show launches in early 2022 in the States, but when it’ll arrive here remains to be seen.
