Midnight Suns Easter Egg Shows How Much Wolverine Hates Cyclops

An easy-to-miss detail in Marvel's Midnight Suns that was pointed out by a Firaxis developer shows that the game's version of Wolverine hates Cyclops as much as he does in most of the comics.

When it comes to Wolverine, there are a few key things that most people know. First, he likes to say the word "bub" a lot. Second, he's the best there is at what he does, and what he does isn't very nice. And, finally, he's almost always shown to butt heads with the de-facto leader of the X-Men, Scott Summers.

Although Cyclops doesn't make an appearance in Marvel's Midnight Suns, there is a clever little reference that shows that the relationship between him and Wolverine is just as rocky as you'd expect. The easter egg was pointed out by Firaxis designer Jake Solomon, who took to Twitter to share an visual reference that you might have missed in Wolverine's room.

In a tweet, Solomon shared an image of a portrait that can be found hanging in Wolverine's room once you encounter him in the main story. The image shows Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Storm, Jean Gray, and Beast all posing together, with someone missing on the right side next to Jean Gray. When sharing the photo, Solomon said, "This photo hangs in Wolvey’s room. My request was “Classic X-Men. Include Jean. Exclude Scott".

Solomon's comments imply that the missing space on the right is where Cyclops is supposed to be standing, and that he either wasn't invited to be a part of the photo by Wolverine or was somehow scrubbed from it after the fact. It's a subtle way of showing that the rivalry between the two over Jean Gray is still strong.

It's also interesting that we get a look at the Midnight Suns' version of some other classic X-Men characters like Jean Gray, Beast, and Nightcrawler, who won't appear in the main game. On those characters, Solomon said, "To all those claiming that picture depicts Rachel instead of Jean, I’m going to invoke our right of unique Marvel universe to say no, that’s Jean. Sorry. It’s a multiverse thing. Also our Beast never turned arrogant he’s still really nice."
