MLB The Show 21 online: Xbox launch and server issues confirmed

MLB The Show 21 has arrived but so have some of the issues causing problems on PS4 and Xbox One.

The good news is that MLB The Show 21 is available to play through Xbox Game Pass, although there have been issues encountered.

One problem connected to the special deluxe edition of the game has been fixed, with the MLB Show support team explaining:

“Xbox has informed us that the code redemption issue some of you were having with the Jackie Robinson Edition should be addressed. If your code was not previously working, please try again.”

A further statement on the MLB The Show 21 Xbox page lists these problems as current affecting the game today:

  • Users are unable to see if the game is a Game Pass qualified title within the Microsoft Store 

    • MLB The Show 21 will be releasing on game pass for the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles on 4/20.

  • Users have preordered MLB The Show 21 before learning that the title will be available via Game Pass 

    • If users pre-ordered directly from Xbox there are simple steps to cancel your pre-order:

      • Sign in with your Xbox account at https://account.microsoft.com/billing/orders

      • In your order history look for when you placed the pre-order (not the date MLB The Show 21 is releasing)

      • Under the release date, click the option to cancel the pre-order

      • If you paid with a credit card, you cancellation will go through with no charge

      • If you paid using Microsoft account credit (for the full purchase price or for partial credit), your credit will be returned to your account, and no charges made to your card

      • If you are cancelling within 10 days from launch or you don’t see the option to cancel your pre-order, please reach out to the Xbox team at https://xbox.com/refund. Any pre-orders made from other retailers (Amazon, Gamestop, or others) you’ll need to get in touch with them directly about your order.

    • Users want to link to their PlayStation Network (PSN) account.

      • Once users have signed into the game, they can link with a PSN account if they already have one. This allows them to sync with previous versions of MLB The Show that were available on PlayStation.

        • Select the Link Account option from the main menu

        • A URL and code will be displayed

        • Visit the URL on another device and enter the code

        • Create an MLB The Show email and password – this links their Xbox account to their MLB account

        • On the account link confirmation screen there is an option to link to a PSN account

        • Select this and sign in with the correct PSN credentials

        • There is no requirement to create an account while playing the game, only to sync with previous history or stats if the customer already has an existing MLB and/or PSN account

      • Users want to unlink their Xbox account from their MLB account.

        • Follow the steps in-game to unlink the Xbox account from the MLB account.

        Fans have also been reporting issues with online servers, with gamers being booted from live games.

        The previous outage earlier today recorded a peak of almost 3,000 reports of MLB The Show 21 being offline.

        According to downdetector.com stats, server connection issues are the main problem impacting affecting MLB The Show 21 players.

        While on Twitter MLB fans have been tweeting to say they’ve received an “unhandled server exception occurred” network error message.

        As the MLB The Show 21 server issues hit fans took to social networking site Twitter to report issues they were facing.
