Mobile Game PUBG: New State Coming To Android And iOS Later This Year

A new mobile PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) game for iOS and Android called PUBG: New State is on the way. On Thursday, PUBG Studios announced the new battle royale title, which flashes forward to 2051, with a short trailer that features gun fights, car chases and loads of new technology.

PUBG: New State picks up years after the current PUBG games on a new map called TROI. Aside from the slew of new vehicles, weapons, and equipment, the mobile game also introduces several new features, such as combat rolls, drones, a shield, and weapon customization with fire-mode selectors and grenade launchers.

The new game’s arsenal seems inspired Call of Duty’s next-gen military technology found in games like Black Ops 3 and 4. New State also promises a deep dive into the PUBG universe, though the trailer doesn’t reveal which long-standing characters might be making an appearance.

New State is the third battle royale game in the PUBG franchise, yet unlike PUBG Mobile, it is being developed by PUBG Studio, which produced PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, the PC and console version of the original game. PUBG Studio says the new entry will introduce “ultra-realistic graphics that push the limits of mobile gaming.”

The original game, inspired by the 2000 Japanese film Battle Royale, a Japanese action-thriller based on the 1999 novel by Koushun Takami, was was first launched for Microsoft Windows via Steam’s early access beta program in March 2017, with a full release in December 2017.

PUBG Mobile, a free-to-play mobile game version for Android and iOS, was released in 2018 with a port for PS4. It was followed by a Stadia version in April 2020. One of the best-selling, highest-grossing and most-played games of all time, PUBG has sold over 70 million copies on PC and consoles as of 2020, while PUBG Mobile has had 734 million downloads and generated over $4.3 billion on mobile devices as of December 2020.

PUBG: New State will be available on Android and iOS later this year, with alpha tests coming in the next few months.
