Mobile Slot Machine Game Coin Master Surpasses $2 Billion In Revenue

Coin Master, developed by Moon Active, has officially seen more than $2 billion in lifetime player spending. Much of its growth was accelerated by global lockdowns, as the title earned nearly $550 million in 2020 alone.

First released in 2015, the casual title saw its best-ever month last December when it earned $118 million – an increase of 92.7% compared to the previous year. Coin Master was also one of the top revenue-generating mobile games worldwide in 2020 across both the App Store and Google Play and has just under 200 million downloads around the world.

Casual games are clearly big business, and Coin Master seems to have mastered the formula. Here are a few of the incredible stats for the wildly popular title (courtesy of SensorTower):

  • Coin Master has surpassed $2 billion in lifetime player spending.
  • It accumulated $1.2 billion in 2020 alone, up 122.4% from 2019.
  • Coin Master had its best month ever in December 2020, when it racked up $118 million in a single month.
  • Coin Master was the No. 4 revenue-generating mobile game worldwide in 2020 across the App Store and Google Play.
  • The title has generated 194.8 million downloads globally to date.

That sort of growth is staggering, but there’s actually another recent mobile game that’s keeping pace – Genshin Impact. In fact, throughout the month of November, Genshin Impact managed to outpace Coin Master with gross revenue of $393 million compared to $229 million. We’re still waiting on a more recent tally for Genshin Impact’s finances, but it’s clear that casual games aren’t the only games that sell on mobile platforms.

Still, the rapid growth of Coin Master mirrors the growth of both casual and casino games on iOS and Android. The casino category was recently listed as the number one category for downloads, with Coin Master and Slotomania leading the charge. There’s clearly a huge market for these casual gambling experiences, although it’ll be interesting to see how this changes as we – hopefully – put COVID-19 behind us and people start flocking back to traditional casinos.
