Sooner or later, just about every video game will have a television or movie adaptation. That apparently includes the 1993 classic, Myst. According to reports, the popular adventure puzzle game is receiving its own TV show, and a script is already in the works from a pretty reputable writer.
Ashley Edward Miller, the screenwriter most famous for 2011’s superhero action flick, X-Men: First Class, will be writing the game’s tv adaptation. Miller also worked on the television show, Fringe, and penned the script for Thor. The writer definitely has some household names under his belt, and it’ll be interesting to see how he approaches Myst.
The 1993 game, which was first released on Macintosh and later made its way to 13 different platforms, tells the story of an unnamed character who finds a book detailing a magical island named, “Myst.” Next, the character is suddenly transported to the island where they’re tasked with solving a series of puzzles to find their way home. The island contains a great deal of magical lore and would make a great back drop for a fantasy series.
The Myst television series is being produced by the game’s original creators, Rand and Ryan Miller, meaning that there’s a good chance it will stick to the source material. We’re unsure who will star in the show, or when it will be released, but expect to learn more in the upcoming year or so.
