New Cyberpunk 2077 footage shows PS4 Pro and PS5 versions, but not PS4

CD Projekt has finally showed Cyberpunk 2077 running on a PlayStation 4, but only the more powerful PS4 Pro model…

Cyberpunk 2077 will be released in just over two weeks and yet last night was the first time we ever saw it running on a PlayStation console. Indeed, the week before that was the first time we’d ever seen it on an Xbox.

The footage was of a different part of the game to the Xbox demo but worked in a similar manner in that it flipped between running on a PS4 Pro and a PlayStation 5 but never showed it working on a base PlayStation 4 – just as it’s also never been shown running on an Xbox One S.

That’s especially worrying because the PlayStation 4 version is rumoured to be the reason for the game’s most recent delay, but it now doesn’t seem likely that we’ll see it running on an ordinary PlayStation 4 before launch day.

The footage itself is from the start of the Nomad lifepath (one of three along with Streetkid and Corpo) and unintentionally confirms that the leaked footage from earlier this week is real, because some of it is very similar.

You also get another look at the character creator and some exterior driving on the PS4 Pro, which doesn’t seem to have any major performance issues.

You also get a glimpse at the Badlands outside the city (a bit like the Cursed Earth in Judge Dredd, we guess) which looks interesting. In fact, the whole game looks great and the footage is a lot more exciting than the rather dull playthrough used for the Xbox version.

As a game, Cyberpunk 2077 looks amazing but there are still serious questions to be answered about the console versions, and not showing the game running on the lower-powered hardware is not exactly encouraging.

With no sign of a new delay though, Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on December 10.

Dedicated Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 versions will be released last year, including a free upgrade offer, but the last gen versions will be enhanced for the new consoles from day one.
