Tesla’s newest models will include infotainment systems that are almost as powerful as a PS5.
If you’re still struggling to find a PS5 or an Xbox Series X, we may have some good news for you. A new platform is about to enter the fray. The only caveat is, you’re going to need a lot of room to store it. Even more than you would need for the bulky PS5. That’s because the new “console” is a car. The Tesla Model X or Model S.
AMD revealed during its Computex 2021 keynote that Tesla’s newest cars come complete with an infotainment system that boasts some pretty powerful tech. An AMD Ryzen processor and AMD RDNA 2 GPU. That means the system is capable of up to ten teraflops of computing power. For anyone who is lost among all this technical jargon, Elon Musk was on hand to explain.
“Yeah, new Model S and X have PS5 level entertainment computing power,” Musk posted in the replies beneath the clip. As much as the eccentric billionaire likes to tweet things just to generate buzz, in this instance he’s not wrong. While the Tesla’s infortainment system isn’t quite as powerful as the PS5, the differences are marginal. As AMD CEO Lisa Su puts it, the cars will be, “a great platform for triple-A gaming.”
We’re not sure about that. While being able to play Resident Evil from the comfort of your car will be quite the novelty, that novelty might wear off pretty quickly. However, Musk’s previous claims that you can play Cyberpunk in one of his cars will soon be a reality. Maybe it wasn’t just a publicity stunt to increase CDPR;s stock value after all.
Speaking of which, Musk has experienced mixed results when it comes to influencing that sort of thing this year. While his social media actions have caused the stock price of GameStop and CDPR to rise, his bizarre and not very well received appearance on SNL had the opposite effect on the value of Dogecoin. Perhaps news that the Model S and Model X are powerful games consoles on wheels will lead to Tesla’s own stock rising this week.
