Nier Replicant: How To Get Blue Marlin

Fishing in Nier Replicant is a great way to earn some gold but is also required for the completion of many fetch quests, including “The Fisherman’s Gambit” quest chain. This series of quests is super important as each time you complete one of the quests, your fishing skill improves, which allows you to catch better and more valuable fish.

The fish that the old fisherman will ask you to catch for “The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 8” is the Blue Marlin, and you’ll be needing two in total to give to him. We have a complete guide right here on where and how to catch this fish.

Prerequisites

In order to be able to catch a Blue Marlin successfully, you must have completed at least seven of “The Fisherman’s Gambit” quests, otherwise, your line will just snap.

These quests can be undertaken by speaking to the old man at the docks in Seafront (the same NPC who gives you a rod as part of the storyline). The first five quests can be completed in Part One, while the latter quests don’t unlock until Part Two. Should you miss any of the quests in Part One, don’t worry as they are still available in Part Two. We have a full walkthrough of “The Fisherman’s Gambit” questline right here.

Where to Catch a Blue Marlin

Blue Marlins can be caught from the docks in Seafront once you have sufficient fishing skill. (This means you will only catch it in Part Two.)

You need to use sardines as bait to catch these guys, and you’ll likely land a few sharks before successfully getting a Blue Marlin on the line. Fortunately, if you run out of sardines as bait, you can simply fish for more by using lugworms as bait in the same location.

You’ll know when you’ve landed a Blue Marlin as it will be significantly harder to reel in. If you need a refresher on fishing or any tips, you can check out our Complete Fishing Guide.
