Nintendo Direct fans are in for a treat with a reliable leaker saying a March 2020 broadcast featuring Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 is dropping this week. It has been over 200 days and counting since the last Nintendo Direct took place in September. That Nintendo Direct revealed the first proper look at Animal Crossing New Horizons and didn’t come too long after the jaw-dropping E3 Direct.
At the time fans had no way of knowing they would be in store for such a long drought, with today marking 201 days since the last Nintendo Direct.
But it looks like this duck is about to be broken with a reliable leaker claiming the next Nintendo Direct is happening this week.
The leaker that correctly predicted that E3 was getting cancelled has said a Nintendo Direct is happening this week, according to a post by KitGuru.
And the leaker has also claimed that this upcoming Nintendo Direct for March 2020 will feature a Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 update and Metroid news.
It remains to be seen what the Metroid game the leaker mentioned could be.
Will we at last be getting first official footage of Metroid Prime 4, which was announced way back in 2017?
Or could the Metroid game in-question be the rumoured Metroid Prime Trilogy compilation for the Switch or the rumoured Super Metroid Remake?

Rumours of a Nintendo Direct happening this week were also backed up in a post by VentureBeat.
VB earlier this month reported that the finishing touches were being put on the next proper Nintendo Direct.
They claimed an Indie Direct would take place on the week beginning March 16 followed by a proper Direct the week beginning March 23.
The publication correctly called when the Indie Direct would be taking place, which could add weight to their claims about the next proper Direct.
VB initially reported: “The next Nintendo Direct is in the works.
“The publisher hasn’t confirmed the event yet, but it’s in the final stages of putting the video presentation together.

- Nintendo Indie World news raises hopes for March 2020 Nintendo Direct
“That’s based on what we’re hearing as well as some other indicators. Expect a Nintendo Direct soon.
“The company is penciling in one of its indie showcases (like the one it released around GDC 2019) for next week — likely March 18.
“A full, general Direct will follow soon after — likely March 26.”
And after the Nintendo Indie World showcase was announced VB updated their article to say: “Nintendo has confirmed an Indie World Showcase for 10 a.m. Pacific time on March 17 (which is March 18 in Japan).”
Anticipation is high for the next Nintendo Direct for a number of reasons.
Firstly, one big reason Nintendo Switch fans are so geared up for the next Direct is the long wait since the last one (over 200 days!!).
The other reason anticipation for the next Nintendo Direct is so high would be the current release schedule for the Nintendo Switch in 2020.
Now that Animal Crossing New Horizons is out we don’t have a confirmed release date for any other first-party Switch exclusives in 2020.
We know that No More Heroes 3, Bravely Default 2 and the Xenoblade Chronicles remake are slated for this year but we don’t know when they will drop.
This bare release schedule has led fans to thinking Nintendo could have a few surprise announcements in store for 2020.
Rumoured titles dropping this year include Pikmin 4, Mario Kart 9, Metroid Prime 4, more Wii U ports and a new Paper Mario game.
More remakes and remasters are also expected to drop in 2020, while fans may also be holding out hope for a Super Mario Odyssey 2 release date.
