Nintendo Direct Mini planned for day after PS5 showcase

This week is going to be a traffic jam of console showcases but the next Nintendo Direct is only going to feature third party games.

There’s going to be a lot of video game fans glued to the screen tonight, from 9pm BST, when Sony debuts their latest PlayStation 5 showcase, but it won’t be the only such event this week.

The next Nintendo Direct Mini will take place tomorrow, 17 September, at 3pm BST in the UK, on YouTube and Twitch.

There’s no indication of exactly what games will be discussed but there will not be any first party Nintendo titles, only third party games from other publishers.

Other recent Nintendo Direct Minis have spotlighted games such as a timed exclusive remaster of Shin Tensei Megami 3 and the multiformat Kingdom Hearts: Melody Of Memory.

It’s hard to say what this week’s Direct might discuss but there have been rumours of a Switch exclusive Monster Hunter game, plus there’s been no new news on already announced games such as Doom Eternal and Bravely Default 2 for some time.

One curiosity is that the Direct is described as being ‘live-streamed’, when they’re usually just pre-recorded videos. That may just be an inaccurate use of the term though, as these sorts of showcases are often described as livestreams by fans even when they’re not.

Either way it’s now over a year since the last general Nintendo Direct, with the few games Nintendo has announced this year all being announced in separate videos that have appeared without warning.

That’s obviously because of the problems caused by the pandemic but how long that will continue as Nintendo’s preferred method of disseminating information is unclear.
