As promised, Microsoft spotlighted a ton of Xbox Series X games during today’s Xbox Showcase livestream. One of the most intriguing reveals was Avowed, a brand-new RPG from Fallout: New Vegas and Outer Worlds developer Obsidian Entertainment.
Avowed is billed as an “epic, first-person RPG” that’s set in an original fantasy world called Eora. Obsidian told Xbox, after being acquired in November 2018, that the studio wanted to work on a huge RPG epic in the way Obsidian only knows how. Though the studio didn’t provide any other details about the game, and while there was no gameplay reveal, Avowed will launch on Windows 10 PC and Xbox Series X.
It’s worth mentioning that, with Avowed set in the world of Eora, the first-person RPG takes place in the same world as the Pillars of Eternity franchise. Though Obsidian didn’t explicitly mention it during the livestream, it’s possible that Avowed may share some DNA with the studio’s isometric RPG. More details about Avowed will be revealed “later down the line,” said Mikey Dowling, Obsidian’s director of communications.
Avowed isn’t the only game Obsidian is working on; as Microsoft previously revealed, the studio is also releasing Grounded, a Honey I Shrunk The Kids-style survival game in which up to four players team up to explore a backyard and fight to survive against the giant, hostile insects living among the grass. Grounded releases on Xbox One and PC next week, on July 28.
