Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent is a single-player gacha-based RPG set years before the original game. Similar to Octopath Traveler, you will gather a band of heroes of eight different classes, and adventure through the world of Orsterra.

The world of Orsterra is constantly changing with new updates to the game, and new content, characters, and story quests are added consistently, leading to tons of information to process when you're first starting. Let's take a look at a few tips to help you get started in Champions of the Continent.

A Well-Rounded Team

There are eight different classes in Champions of the Continent, each with their own weapon and unique skills. The best way to do well in combat is to be able to exploit the enemy's weak point, which is best done by having a wide range of weapon and element types.

Because of this, for general exploration and story quests, you should aim to have one of each class in your party, giving you access to at least all eight weapon types, and even a few different elements as well. This will let you hit enemy weak points, leading to more victories in battle.

Break And Boost

All enemies in Champions of the Continent have weaknesses. Usually, enemies are weak to a combination of elements and weapon types. When striking an enemy's weakness enough times, they will enter a broken state, in which they will take more damage from all attacks.

On the other hand, characters will gain one Boost point each turn. Then, they can spend up to three Boost points at once to empower their next attack, increasing its damage and causing normal attacks to hit the enemy more times.

The break and boost system dictates the main flow of combat, where you hit enemy weak points until they are in the broken state, then boost your attacks and unleash powerful skills while the enemy is vulnerable.

Increasing Influence

Wealth, Power, and Fame are the driving forces behind the characters and story of Champions of the Continent. As you progress, you'll increase your Influence over Wealth, Power, and Fame. Increasing their levels will grant you small bonuses to your party's stats and Rubies.

You can increase your Influence by Guiding new characters, finishing story quests, and upgrading the skill board of your characters. As you increase your Influence, you will also be able to interact with new NPCs using Path Actions. Increasing Influence will make you slightly more powerful over time, and will reward you with precious Rubies for Guiding new characters.

Path Action Priority

With the Influence System, there are also three types of path actions related to Wealth, Power, and Fame: Purchase, Contend, and Entreat, respectively. Using these Path Actions, you can acquire materials that you can sell, exclusive equipment, and other useful items like Experience Nuts.

As mentioned above, certain NPCs will require a higher rank of Influence to use Path Actions on, so be sure to increase your Influence to gain access to a wider selection of NPCs. Additionally, when you reach a new town, try using your Path Actions on all the NPCs in the area to gain useful items.

Caits Every Day

Caits are rare enemies that have a chance to appear in battle, and will grant high amounts of experience and Leaves if you are able to defeat them. Additionally, you can find several stationary Caits around the world that can be battled once a day. While random Caits you find have a chance to escape, stationary Caits won't escape you, allowing you to defeat them for their rewards.

In addition, you can watch three ads each day to summon a Cait, which you can fight for experience and Leaves. Defeating Caits is one of the best ways to level up your party, so be sure to take advantage of these features each day to grow stronger.

Starting Strong

When you start your journey in Champions of the Continent, you will start with one of eight five-star characters. Then, shortly after completing the tutorial, you will be able to use Rubies to summon new characters. While you could take the character you get and begin your adventure, you may also wish to reroll your account for the chance at a better start.

Lynette, Viola, and Fiore are popular 5-star targets for rerolling, and will give you a strong start in the early game. Rerolling can be a tedious process, so we only recommend doing it if you want the absolute best start possible, and are willing to repeatedly do the tutorial of the game for a while.

Take Your Time

Champions of the Continent is a single-player RPG, with no time-limited events like other mobile games in the genre. This means that most of the content added to the game is permanent, save for rare crossover events. The entire game can be played at your own pace, allowing you to complete story chapters and boss fights when you want to.

While there are daily quests and other things to do each day like hunts and developing the Nameless Town, these can be completed at your own pace, and will never disappear from the game altogether.
