Pokemon Go July 2020 Community Day date, times, Shiny Gastly, bonuses, Shadow Punch Gengar

Pokemon Go developer Niantic is getting ready to hold the July 2020 Community Day event.

The next Pokemon Go Community Day event takes place on July 19 at 11am local time.

Since the pandemic, Community Day events have lasted for six hours instead of the regular three hours. This means the event will run until 5pm local time.

As part of the July 2020 Community Day event, Gastly will appear more frequently in the wild. It’s ideal if you’re yet to unlock Haunter or Gengar.

“For just a few hours each month, you can encounter a special Pokemon in the wild,” reads a Niantic post.

“During these hours, there’s a chance to learn a previously unavailable move for that Pokemon or its Evolution, as well as earn some Community Day bonuses. Celebrate what it means to be a part of the Pokemon GO community!”

Needless to say, the ability to encounter more Gastly Pokemon isn’t the only reason to join in with the Community Day celebrations.

If you evolve Haunter into Gengar during event times, your Gengar will learn the exclusive Shadow Punch move.

With Gastly appearing more frequently in the wild, there’s a good chance you’ll encounter a Shiny variant.

As Niantic points out, users can earn a special surprise by taking a few snapshots during the event.

Community Day bonuses, meanwhile, include reduced hatch distances for eggs placed in an incubator during the event.

Elsewhere, Incense activated during the event will last for three hours instead of the regular 30 minutes.

If you want to take advantage of the bonuses, you might also want to visit the in-game shop, where you can purchase a Community Day bundle.

The July 2020 Community Day box contains 30 Ultra Balls, an Elite Fast TM, two Incense, and two Super Incubators.

For a limited time, fans can also pay to unlock a Community Day Special Research Story.

“For US$1 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you’ll be able to access the Community Day–exclusive Special Research story: The Great Gastly!” Niantic explains.

“Follow Professor Willow as he investigates some spooky happenings in his mobile lab!”

Niantic warns that tickets are non-refundable, and don’t include an in-game metal.
