Sony has good news and bad news for PS Plus subscribers. The company recently unveiled the PlayStation Plus Essential games for September 2023. The next batch of free PS4 and PS5 games include the 2022 Saint’s Row reboot, massively-multiplayer action game Black Desert Traveler Edition and first-person survival game Generation Zero. The new games will be available to download and play from September 5. Unfortunately, however, the good news ends there, because Sony also announced plans to increase the price of PlayStation Plus subscriptions.
Starting on September 6, annual PlayStation Plus Essential subscriptions will increase from £49.99 to £59.99.
If you want to access Sony’s online games catalogue, a 12 month PS Plus Extra membership will set you back £99.99, instead of £83.99.
Finally, annual PS Plus Premium subscriptions will increase from £99.99 to £119.99.
Indeed, if you want to ensure you pay the current, cheaper prices, you might want to upgrade your PlayStation Plus membership now.
As for the September 2023 PS Plus Essentials, last year’s Saint’s Row reboot headlines the line-up.
“Experience the biggest and best Saints Row playground ever created,” reads the official description.
“The unique sprawling world of Santo Ileso is the backdrop for a wild, larger than life sandbox of thrilling side hustles, criminal ventures and blockbuster missions, as you shoot, drive and wingsuit your way to the top.
“Take over the city block by block, wage war against enemy factions and tighten your grip on the streets.”

Black Desert, on the other hand, is an open-world fantasy MMORPG featuring a mixture of player-vs-enemy and player-vs-player battles.
According to Sony, the Traveler Edition contains the base Black Desert game and multiple add-ons.
Finally, Generation Zero is a first-person adventure set in an alternative 1980s Sweden where machines have taken over.
“You must choose your battles wisely as you engage in adrenaline-pumping guerrilla combat against these mechanical forces.
“Scavenge parts from your fallen enemies and use them to craft equipment, weapons and ammunition. Build and fortify your own bases across the island and start taking back your home.”
The September 2023 free PS4 and PS5 games replace Dreams, PGA Tour 2K23 and Death’s Door.
