PS4 update 8.00 causes upset as fans worry Sony is recording party chats

The new PS4 update has been criticised for not working and making party chart worse, but Sony has denied they’re listening to you talk.

A new PlayStation 4 update, that makes changes to how Party and Messages work, has gone about as badly as it possibly could, with complaints that it doesn’t work, that even if it did it’s a downgrade, and that it seems to imply Sony are listening to your conversations.

That last points has already been denied by Sony, after players were worried by a new warning that appears on screen saying that, ‘Voice chats may be recorded for moderation. By Joining, you agree to being recorded.’

That sent Twitter alight with worry but an update on the PlayStation Blog claims that it’s a mistake and doesn’t relate to PlayStation 4 at all, but only PlayStation 5. And even then it’s not Sony that will recording conversation but other players, who will then be able to send it to Sony for moderation.

All in all, the update has gone about as badly as it’s possible to go, although the technical problems will hopefully be fixed relatively quickly.
