PSN down reports have spiked today, with independent outage monitor Down Detector registering hundreds of PlayStation Network down reports. From around 10am BST today PSN down reports have been steadily rising, with Down Detector UK at the time of writing registering a peak of around 450 reports of PSN down. Out of those affected some 52 percent are experiencing issues with PlayStation Networks social features while 41 percent have reported sign-in problems.
However, despite this the official PlayStation Network status pages says most services are operational.
The Sony website does say there are some difficulties with PlayStation Video, but apart from that the main PSN features such as gaming, social, account management, the PS Store and PlayStation Now are all running fine.
The official PSN website does have the message though: “You may experience somewhat slower or delayed game downloads because we’re working with ISPs to manage download traffic. We believe it’s important to do our part to address internet stability concerns as an unprecedented number of people are staying home and practicing social distancing. We appreciate the support and understanding from our community.”
Elsewhere today marks the release of PS4 update 8.0.0 so if you’re having problems logging into PlayStation Network you may need to update your PS4.
The upcoming release of PS4 update 8.0.0 was announced by the official PlayStation Twitter account which posted: “PS4 system software update 8.00 drops today, featuring changes to Party and Messages, plus more flexible Parental Controls and more”.
At the time of writing the official Ask PlayStation UK Twitter account has not commented on the reported issues PSN users are experiencing today.
But amid the reported server problems PlayStation fans have taken to Twitter to report the issues they’ve encountered with the service.
One of the biggest issues PSN users have reported is being unable to view their friends list.
One tweeted: “I can’t connect to the internet, I keep getting disconnected from it I also updated the ps4 to 8.00 and it still doesn’t work I already called my internet service provider and my router is completely fine some help me #psndown #playstationnetworkdown @PlayStation @AskPlayStation”.
Another posted: “#psndown friendslist doesn’t load. (WS-37505-0) & (WS-44369-6) all games got set to hidden from my profile for some reason? I show online but not sure if i’m actually online? Please fix this!”
One added: “Is PSN down? Cause I can’t see my friends list at all or anything like that.”
And another wrote: “Is PSN servers down or something I can’t see anything like my friends or whatever”.
