Resident Evil Code: Veronica’s Fan Remake Has A Demo Out Now

Capcom might not have plans to remaster this classic, but that doesn’t mean fans aren’t interested. Resident Evil Code: Veronica is currently receiving the full remake treatment thanks to two dedicated fans, boasting improved visuals and recreated cutscenes, with everything remade from the ground up using Unity.

Inspired by the remakes for Resident Evil 2 and 3, Resident Evil Code: Veronica Remake allows players to explore Rockfort Island without the original’s fixed camera angles. Anyone interested in trying the game out for themselves can head over to the website and download the demo, which gives players the first taste of the updated Dreamcast hit.

The demo went live earlier this week, but an updated version with various bug-fixes is expected later today. It’s currently available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

The Resident Evil Code: Veronica Remake is being developed by a two-person team, Briins and Matt Croft. The pair have clearly been hard at work, as a patch has already gone live to address bugs that players were running into. The update scheduled for later today will apparently be the final one for this demo, as they instead turn their attention to getting the rest of the game ready.

There’s no final release date set in stone yet, but the team appear to be on schedule. When we previously reported on the fan-made remake, they were shooting to have the first demo out by July, which they’ve now met with time to spare. The game is planned to launch in three parts altogether.

Just like the demo, the full game will be a free download, as to avoid a cease and desist from Capcom. Of course, it’s Capcom’s apparent lack of love for the title that created the need for a fan remake, as Code: Veronica was skipped when it came to dishing out Resident Evil re-releases. Instead of announcing anything Code: Veronica-related, Capcom has instead skipped all the way to Resident Evil 4, as it’s getting a VR re-release later this year.
