Sonic celebrated his 30th birthday in 2021 and unlike some other studios and their own mascots, Sega did plenty to mark the occasions. The blue blur popped up in a number of different games and Sega even announced two new Sonic games. Well, one new game, Sonic Frontiers, and a collection of old games dubbed Sonic Origins. Hopefully, both Frontiers and Origins will be here by the end of 2022.
Evidence is now stacking up suggesting Origins will be here well before the end of the year. The first indicator was the reveal that the collection has been rated in South Korea. Games being rated by various boards around the world is usually a surefire sign that a release date is on the horizon. That belief has now been compounded by the discovery of what appears to be official Origins artwork.
According to Twitter account Sonic Stadium, the key art for Origins briefly appeared on the PlayStation Network. The image, which you can check out below, features the logo for the collection as well as a number of the characters you'll meet while playing it. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Metal Sonic, and Dr. Robotnik are all there. It also acts as confirmation that Origins will be coming to PlayStation, which was assumed anyway, but no word on whether there will be separate versions for PS4 and PS5.
It has almost been a full year since the collection was announced and Sega has mentioned nothing since. While the original Sonic games have been bundled together in various ways a number of times since they first launched, this collection will be a little different. Origins will include Sonic 1, 2, 3 & Knuckles, and CD.
Sonic has been making a lot of headlines recently. Not so much for his upcoming games, but for his new movie. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 hit cinemas a couple of weeks ago and as expected, it has been upping the expectations for video game movies yet again. Breaking records set by the first Sonic movie two years ago, the sequel has already sped past the $200 million mark at the worldwide box office.
